FCP has always (to my knowledge) handled Interlaced and Progressive badly, specifically when working with ProRes as it doesn’t provide any suitable indication that there is a difference between the two.

CCC changes the size of the drive you are cloning onto. It does not change anything on the drive you are cloning.
The drive you are cloning to does not have a Recovery HD partition, but your original drive does, thus it needs to make space on the new drive.

This isn’t their fault.
They have become billion-dollar companies by finding ways like this that are legal. It is up to the government to close these holes, not up to corporations to be Joe-nice-guy and point out something that would cost them millions in profit. That’s not how you become a successful business.

What kind of media are you working with?
Are you using any kind of I/O card or box, have you tried turning ‘External Video’ in the view menu to Off.
Do you have video scopes, audio mixer or the VO tool open?

April 12, 2011 at 8:51 pm in reply to: Using and or Converting .mxf files to be used in FCP 6Have you downloaded and installed the Canon XF Plugin:
https://software.canon-europe.com/software/0040354.asp?model=
If you install that you will be able to mount the CF cards in FCP Log and Transfer and transcode to ProRes 422 through that.
Hope this helps.

Hey Andi,
We looked at doing something similar last year the main difference being we were going to use FCP rather than AVID.
What I found in testing was that while it was possible to capture the clips, re-conforming did not work successfully due to FCP’s inability to understand the ‘clip’ structure of an XDCAM disc when going through Log and Capture not Log and Transfer.
When you conform from tape it usually involved one continuous timecode run. We all know timecode breaks on a tape can lead to headaches, so basically an XDCAM disc with 100 clips on it, is seen as a tape with 100 timecode breaks. FCP also had trouble “spooling” through an XDCAM disc when it contained multiple clips.
This was just under a year ago so thinks may have changed, especially considering your doing this with AVID. But I would strongly advise testing this out before you commit to it.

We have been using a company called Digital Garage for coming up to 4 years now and I cannot recommend them enough.
They’ve help advise us on what is the best storage, how best to implement it and earlier this week one of their engineers came in to help us install an expansion to our storage putting our total over 100TB.
I know all of their engineers personally and have never felt any qualms with calling the up if we have a problem to which they are always more than happy to help.
Hope this helps.

The IO Control Panel does not come bundled within the IO drives. The download is available here:

Have you ever used MobileMe?
I have accounts with both MobileMe and Dropbox, and Dropbox without doubt wipes the floor with MobileMe.
Yes MobileMe is good for keeping emails, contacts and calendars in sync but for files, nothing I’ve used compares to how well DropBox does it.
I use it across 3 macs and it works great. The ability to choose which folders to sync, LAN syncing, and shared folders makes MobileMe pale in comparison.
I think you can guess by now what my suggestion is.

David, a hard drive’s shelf is at best 3 years, provided you spin it up once a year to ensure it’s still working.
An LTO’s shelf life is 30 years, slightly more useful for archiving media.
