***LOOKING FOR HELP CONVERTING .mxf FILES TO A FILE FORMAT FRIENDLY WITH FCP 6***

I have recently filmed a live event for which I have been asked to edit and put to DVD. I shot on the fairly-new Canon XF105 which stores the media as a .mxf file. This file format is not recognized by FCP 6 so I am looking for help in converting the files to a format FCP will recognize so I can finish the project.

I tested converting a short .mxf file to a .mov file using HandBreak. It works so much as it plays in my QuickTime Player but when I attempt to bring it into FCP it is not being recognized.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Have you downloaded and installed the Canon XF Plugin:

    https://software.canon-europe.com/software/0040354.asp?model=

If you install that you will be able to mount the CF cards in FCP Log and Transfer and transcode to ProRes 422 through that.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks Tom,

I did download the Plug-in and it is installed. Problem is I rented the camera and CF cards and have since returned it. I have the CF contents in a file on my Desktop but am unaware of how the get it into FCP. Because I’m not using a mounted CF card or Camera I’m unable capture in FCP to Log and Transfer and trans-code to ProRes 422. Are you aware of a method I can follow to allow me to trans-code/convert the file so I can just drag it into a Bin.

    Thanks for your help,

    Bryon

    Hey Byron
When you copied the clips to your hard drive did you copy the full folder structure and contents of the CF card, or just the MXF media files only?
If the former then you should be able to press the “+” button at top left of the Log and Transfer window and navigate to the folder containing the FC card data … if you add that containing folder then it should see the contents and let you ingest from there.
    Cheers
    Andy

I had the same issue as above where I had to transfer the contents of my CF cards to an external drive. i have all the data from the CF card and In trying to log and transfer them from the drive into FCP 7 I get a warning that says: The following clips contain unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media. This is also the case with the mxf files that were exported from the XF Utility. any other suggestions on how to get the mxf files into FCP?
