Sounds like a field flip issue to me. I had an SD experience with that look a day or two ago. A colleague had an uncompressed sequence (720×486) with some DV (720×480) clips on it (He should have made a DV sequence). I changed the sequence setting to DV. It looked horrible. I looked at the motion tab on the clips and found that they were all set on “1” in the Y position instead of 0. Moved them back to 0–bingo, looks good again. Any chance you are getting a field flip because of incorrect Y position of the material?

So, QT is changing the export to the full square-pixel size. Have you tried exporting only one clip from the timeline with current settings?

When did this feature go south on you? Are you sure it’s a frame size issue vs. a timebase issue? QT changes the display of various formats based on settings and codec (7.1+ has this whole thing abut Aperture Display Modes), but it doesn’t change the actual frame size unless you tell it to, does it?
FCP4.5 and QT7.2 does not show the problem here.

I have come across several countdown clock effects, but I can’t give you links or names. I think at least one is in a free plug-in collection. Try googling final cut pro plug-in and see what you can find.

The pjpeg seems problematical. There has been quite a lot of discussion about a “PJPEG 75% Quality Hack” that allows RT Extreme funtionality with that codec with Kona products. Don’t know if it works at 720P resolution. You should be able to find posts about it by searching posts.Why not offline with DV? This takes you down to a quarter of the file size of the HD. You pose an interesting question. Maybe nobody on the board has had reason to try it.

I have Squeeze 4.5.6 and it only lists WM9 and WM9 Advanced in the codec window.

Phil,
All I can suggest at this point is that you try different settings for anti-aliasing quality in the Motion preferences. Also, is your project setting set to field dominance of none or progressive? These are areas I’d look to eliminate the anti-aliasing of the one-pixel line.
