Can we get another one about horizontal resolution of recorded 1080i/p-picture?
Just a hint for future development:
@100Mbps assuming 1280×1080 resolution:
1080i60@4:2:2 = 2.4b/px = 6.6 compression ratio
1080p50@4:2:0 = 1.4b/px = 8.3 compression ratioI would see that the difference is quite small and need for 4:2:2 with progressive material is greatly reduced. So for the next model, please…

Well, this is European version which AFAIK does not do even 1080p24.
1080p60 would be too much compression and there’s no plans to broadcast 1080p60 anywhere.
1080p50 might be doable, if sampling is dropped to 4:2:0.
That would be anyway about same resolution than 1080i with 4:2:2.Jan, if that statement in

1080p50 might be the next EBU rec. so there could be use for that.
Europeans are getting rid of interlacing with hdtv…
720p60@100Mbps means 200kB/frame(960*720)=2.3b/px
1080p50@100Mbps would be 250kB/frame(1440*1080)=1.3b/px
Quite a bit more compression… -

tells that “pal”-version would be available “Fall 2005”, which is nice, but real news is:
“All 1080, 720 and 576 signals support 50 Hertz framerates in progressive mode!”
So we are getting 1080p50!!! This is great! I hope there’s also 1080p25/24… -

That’s quite surprising. AFAIK all hdtv-channels feed their delivery systems from d5hd-TAPE or hdcamsr-TAPE.
And they have just purchased or they are just purchasing those decks, so I believe they will be used for about a decade… -

Acquisition might be hdd/solod state, but not archiving.
After a decade one out of hundred tapes might gone bad, but ten hard drives out of hundred might not start.
So the real question is on what media to archive: AIT-tape, LTO-tape,TAPE, tape …
