Thanks for the quick post.

There is only one track of music (well, two mono tracks). If I’m not mistaken, I shouldn’t have to mixdown to see the waveforms for one piece of music, correct? They were there once before so I am thinking its either a button/checkbox/setting or a bug. Any other thoughts before I mixdown?

I relinked the transcoded file to my “selects” sequence in the bin. This sequence had the AMA’d group clip in the timeline and the AMA relinked to the transcoded file without a problem. Thanks for your assistance.

Thanks, John.

The reason I did it this way was that I didn’t want to wait for the transcode to begin working on my edit so I grouped an AMA file into my bin. The hope was to swap it out once I finished the transcoding. Being that isn’t possible, do you have any recommendations on achieving a similar solution so I dont have to continue working wiht an AMA in my group clip? I haven’t had the best of luck using AMA as a long term editing solution.

Hi Dave. To answer your questions,

1. I ripped a 23.98 DVD
2. The frame rate of the footage according to QT Movie Inspector, AE and the FCP browser is 23.98.
3. I used the DV/DVCPRO-NTSC codec. I have had issues in the past when exporting to Pro Res from MPEG Streamclip with FCP. Clips not playing back in RT, green vertical line running down the side of the frame, overall image color gets degraded when playing back from timeline, etc. (probably another forum discussion for that one). That is why I have stuck with the DV/DVCPRO codec for DVD extracting.

Let me know if you have any thoughts.

Thanks for you quick response. I understand what you say above, but still don’t understand why, if the footage is interpreted as 23.98, and it is recognized in QT as 23.98, won’t after effects render it out as such? I forgot to mention that I am bringing this footage back into a FCP timeline set at 23.98 NTSC/DV.

Hi Michael-

Source clip is 24 frames with 4 embedded audio tracks at 48K, 24 bit-integer. So no syncing involved. Interestingly enough, I realized the project audio was set to 16 bit. When I changed it to 24 Bit all but 2 clips were in sync via AMA. Not sure why that is.

One of the out of sync AMA files I imported at DNxHD115 and it is in sync, so the results are not the same. The clip works for direct import and not AMA

The 31 frames does not equal .1% times the duration of the clip.

Although we seem to have found a solution to that particualr clip, any thoughts as to why some playback fine with AMA, while the ones that don’t, only playback fine on direct import?

Hey Craig-

What “file based player” did/do you recommend?? So, with a 16GB card, you are limited to a 4GB export? It won’t create new clips after it reaches 4GB??

I know that exporting DVCPRO HD footage to EX does not look as good, I can accept that. I am just trying to eliminate the possibility for jittery play back and freeze ups. Also, this is only for rough cut playback. When we online we won’t have to worry about this.

No obligation, just peace of mind. It’s not uncompressed, though. It’s actually an exported DVCPRO HD file that we would like to throw on SXS media (as that is what we have in our facility). We have played the file directly off the cpu 3X now. There was lag at different moments each time (not to mention the momentary freeze up as if the processors forgot to keep processing). In an exhibition scenerio, it would put all of us at ease to play off some sort of deck ie xdcam. I could just output to DVCAM but I really want to maintain as much resolution as possible.

That is correct, we want to play out the HD-SDI on our EX deck. I would get the 32Gb card if I had the time to wait for one to come in stock.

Right now we are showing the exported file right off the cpu and, although it looks good, it is not as stable (motion jitter across pans) as going to solid state.
