And last but not least, these shady grey market East Coast (usually Brooklyn) weasels have their employees spend lots of time on all the rating sites saying good things and rendering them practically useless.

If you look closely you will begin to see similar verbiage patterns with the cheapo sites with intermittent inflammatory complaints like, “steer clear!”

You don’t see this with BH Photo which I believe is the current industry standard. I have had good luck with Profeel.com which is a little cheaper than BH but BH is king.

    Good luck.

  • Hey Guys,

Sorry if I hit on a sore spot and I appreciate the info. As always I will wait until this all hashes itself out. It’s all got to make good business sense.

I was under the impression that the PS3 was a huge flop, at least that’s the popular sentiment among all the gamers that I work with.

Maybe it’s just going to take time to refine it? This will certainly make my job very difficult no matter how you slice it.

This is actually the kind of thing that could put a little guy like me out of business if I don’t handle it well.

Interesting stuff. Feel free to chime in if anybody’s got anything.

    Cheers,

    DVDs are absolutely NOT reliable.

I experienced chemical breakdown of my masters (Ritek) in less than a year. Now I have to re-edit, re-author and re-distribute about 60 DVDs in order to retain my integrity.

Tape, tape, tape, maybe a hard drive and tape.

  • Fantastic Stuff,

Thank you very much gentlemen, and anybody else please keep it coming. Interesting that I am actually breaking into the Wedding market right now. Weddings were something that I initially avoided, but the truth is that it is a big fat segment.

I would love to work with more bands as I am in one myself, but most of the bands that I approach are too poor to pay a price that would make it worth it for me to work with them. Using what I have seen above, I think I could specifically target bands that can pay by using phrases like, “Professional music video production starting as low as $2000!”

Thank you all again for your posts, you just can’t imagine how helpful it is. This is also why the COW is one of my favorite places on earth!

    Keep em’ coming!

I work a day job and run my video business after hours which is when most of the work happens anyway. I could live off my video business if I wanted to rent a house, but I am buying a house in the most expensive market in the world (California) so I work like a dog for now.

The video business grows every year and I get better at marketing it every year.

It just doesn’t happen over night, and camera operators just don’t make good money unless they are on HUGE Hollywood movies.

Start your own business or just do it for the love of it cause just shooting video does not pay.

Can somebody tell me what “Peaking” is?

By the way, I love the LCD on my DVX100P compared to everything else I have tried, so if it gets any better I’m all for it.

    Thanks.

    Thank you, thank you noise!

Too clean is too sterile in my book. How does the noise look is my question.

People are spending tons of money to filter and dirty up film these days.

I personally love shooting with my 8 video cam. Not high 8, not digital 8.

Does the noise look good? Have charachter?

    “Ain’t shootin’ no soap operas.”

    Quality issues is my guess.

    Don’t be so eager.

I’m getting 2, but maybe in a year.

February 3, 2006 at 7:09 am in reply to: Which camera for shooting for Plasma TV production?

Unless you’re shooting for film or direct to TV, HD is gimmick for 5 years.

There are people here in Santa Cruz advertising WEDDING VIDS in HD!

Do they tell them that it will not be in HD when it goes to DVD?

    Ohhhhhhhhhhh Heyaaaallll NO!
    Catch words….DIGITAL…PLASMA…HD…CAREER MINDED…….GOAL ORIENTED….

    Don’t believe the hype!

(ALWAYS 2 YEARS BEHIND, let the others do the R&D).

Waiting for those HVX 200 reviews!
