HVX 200 LCD screen?
Posted by Peter Carroll on March 22, 2006 at 1:04 pmI am looking for additional opinions on the quality of the LCD screen of the HVX 200. A friend with a new 200 reports that the screen is not as sharp as the one on his 100A. I have read negative comments about the 200 LCD on this forum too. What’s up with that?? Any other thoughts?
thanks.

The HVX’s LCD is sharper than your friend’s DVX100A. Heck the DVX100B’s LCD is sharper than the DVX100A. There are strategies in the camera that will help you focus on HD subject atter. One is peaking and the other is Focus Assist. Initially I think it may take a little practice in using it, just like it took me practice in getting used to an LCD in the viewfinder on the first DV cameras, like the AG-EZ1. Initially I couldn’t figure out whether I was in focus or not, but I quickly learned. The same is true here.

March 22, 2006 at 2:20 pmThanks Jan! Good to know.
I will be investing in the 200 initially to shoot SD to tape in native 16X9 24p and 30p. Can you confirm that this is possible.
thanks.

March 22, 2006 at 2:44 pmI think we are all waiting for small detachable high res lcd’s for these cameras.
There has been many years 15″ laptops with 1920×1200 screens, so it wouldn’t be too hard to cut from the same panel motherglass about 10″ displays with real 1280×720 resolution.
Analog component hd input to that from camera and there’s the solution.I just don’t understand why we are not getting that kind of products already…

March 22, 2006 at 5:52 pmI can’t seem to get the focus assist to work in 480 SD mode (60i, 24p, 30p, 16:9, anamorphic squeeze, etc.). Something stupid I’m overlooking?

March 22, 2006 at 7:46 pmThe “focus assist” doesn’t work in SD? You’ve got to be kidding! It’s the *same* LCD screen whether shooting SD or HD, isn’t it? Why would focusing be any less critical if you’re shooting, say, DVC Pro 50 in SD? Why in the world is focus assist not available across all modes?

March 22, 2006 at 8:28 pmIt does not function in SD as there is nothing to blow up to. With HD there is a larger image to blow up to. At 2X there is beyond the pixel level of SD. So use the peaking as you would on the DVX.

Jan

March 24, 2006 at 3:31 amYes you can shoot native 16×9 DV to tape, and you can also shoot 4×3 DV to tape. Both modes support 24p, 30p, and 60i recording.

March 29, 2006 at 7:56 amCan somebody tell me what “Peaking” is?
By the way, I love the LCD on my DVX100P compared to everything else I have tried, so if it gets any better I’m all for it.
Thanks.
