September 2, 2009 at 5:48 pm in reply to: firewire connection on IOHD turned inward when attaching cableI was just about to post almost the exact same information, as I just got off the phone with AJA tech support.
Before I had even finished me story, he said “and the connector popped off”.
So obviously this has happened before. He said we’re lucky that it still works, normally they
pop off of the circuit board all together.Have sent requested information, and expect the replacement tomorrow.
KUDOS to AJA customer service!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the responses

make a new sequence and change the codec (sequence settings) to png (others will work, animation+ seems to be the preferred, but I’ve always had trouble with it, as long as the codec supports alpha channels it should work).
copy/paste your effect into the empty sequence and make sure it is NOT rendered.
Then export as (what I call a FCP QT) quicktime, and the resulting file SHOULD contain the alpha, and therefore, key properly in Motion. The “useful options” will not be in the export dialog, but need to be properly set before you export.
Let me know if this helped.
a cow search might reveal TONS more info, but this is the basic workflowTodd Reid

you can export from FCP with an alpha by using a codec that supports alpha (I’ve had best luck with png). important step is to make sure it is NOT rendered when you export it, as rendering marries it to the background.
give that a try

In the past, I have had to make sure titles were placed on whole/even numbers.
(example 4 instead of 3.56) or the scan lines would make them appear fuzzy.I don’t worry about that as much anymore, but I still keep to that just in case, its a habit now.
I remember back when I used to use LiveType and remember having some problems that you describe.
My suggestion is to use Motion instead of LiveType.Todd Reid

I’m waiting til AJA patches the IOHD.
Their website even goes so far as to suggest that you remain on FCS2 until the patch is released.
They’ve already patched the Kona3, so it should be pretty soon. With your current harddrive cloned, you really dont have much to lose by trying it out.
If things crater, you can easily get back up and running as if your upgrade fiasco never happened.
I would jump in, if AJA had a patch ready for me!!!!Todd Reid

going analog is going to be your only option.
I needed to get some (non-copyrighted) material off of a dvd, (for legit purposes), and ran into same thing.
Tech support at AJA taught me that it should NOT work ever, by design, to help control piracy. He said your only option was to go in component, which I did, and it worked perfectly. He told me its hardware built into the dvd players, as well as the encryption put on the discs themselves, therefore it doesn’t work regardless of what kind of protection is on the disc, including none.

I use xprove.com to show my approvals to clients.
You can stream or download, and make comments that include the time code.
I’ve had clients with macs and pc enjoy this flawlessly, but sadly I have had 2 clients have troubles, they were both on pcs and sadly were not very computer literate, so I chalk it up to operator error.

Very funny AND sad but true.
a few more gems from producers:
“Hit the cool button”
“go left on the tape”
“I’ll be right back”
“crush the blacks”
“it is what it is”
“you have carte blanche to make this thing cool” “oh wait, THATS too much”
“your the expert, what do you think?”ALSO:
funny videos that you may have seen, that make fun of the troubles us post production guys face on a regular basis. “why are those numbers on the screen?”Todd Reid

[Michael Russell] “Thank you Rafael,
Can I export via compressor and still achieve my requirements? How’d I go about it?
“I think Rafael is saying to use the quicktime export (not export via compressor). Once you have your (what I call a) FCP QT, you take that into Compressor, and make all the setting changes you desire (you may have to duplicate one of the presets, in order to make the changes, then save that setting so you can use it again if needed.
exporting from FCP via compressor not only take a LONG time, it also causes you to tie up FCP. You wont be able to do anything else until its done.
If you export a QT (lossless) first, then compressor can be doing the conversion (faster and possibly better), while you are doing more work in FCP (assuming your computer is powerful enough).Todd Reid

could this be an issue with the checkbox in preferences,
“remove advanced pulldown and duplicate frames”?I have had this box become checked (after an instal or upgrade) and began to experience the same types of things you described during movement within the video.
check this setting, if that box is checked, uncheck it and re-import your footage.
Let us know if that helps.
