Good is relative as is many. There are online sites, some paid, some free with registration – like https://www.freesfx.co.uk/
If you download Media Composer First, they had a free 300 sfx bundle you can download as well. You can Google for others, but be prepared for slim pickens. Best ones are paid.

Have you tried messing with the Field Options for your star background layer? Right-Click on that layer, select Field Options. There you could reverse field order, deinterlace, or flicker removal. I would try there.

1.3 GB isn’t bad for 1 hour 45 minutes. Some things to make it smaller: Drop the bit rate, shrink the image size (1080 to 720), have fewer fps (30 to 24).
Try some of the Vimeo presets as starting points.

I can tell you, when I do and hour mpg file, it takes about 5-10 minutes for the darn thing to have audio available. You can transcode to another file format using AME. That works quite well. Although, I think there is still a lag for AME to begin processing.

There are a lot of opinions about this. Depends on your computer – what sort of connections you may have cards that can plug in, workflow, what kinds of files you usually work with, and how much media you typically work with.
My guess, if you are working on your C drive now, an external usb3 drive may be fine.
You could also look at external RAID 5 or 6. These will cost more, and you’ll probably need a PCIe card, but will have better performance and data protection.

Are these long mpg files? I do this as well occasionally with 1 hr mpg files. Usually the audio is conforming. You should see a progress bar on the lower right of your sequence window that says conforming audio (or something like that). For mpg files, you usually have to wait until it gets all the way through the file before you can play/hear the audio. PPro has been like that for some time now. Don’t think that will change with mpg files.

Definitely. The C Drive is doing so much behind the scenes with apps, paging information between the drive and RAM, and a whole lot more. Best to edit from a dedicated drive. And don’t forget backups. If you’re hard drive failed, could you do without any of your video projects/media?

As Dave so eloquently stated, it would be best to edit them that way. But, you can right-click, hold, hold Command key, then drag the clip so it snaps to the beginning of the clip you want it in front of. Then release your mouse. It will cut in that position and move everything down the timeline.

Export codec and preview codec need to be the same??? Not what I’ve experienced.
I’ve tested this. Preview render on a short :15 sequence resulted in 1/3 of the export time than when I didn’t select to use Preview Renders – both renders to h264 from an AVC Intra 100 sequence with Preview Renders that matched sequence.
Certainly preview and export settings should match for best quality and fastest export, but they don’t need to match to get faster export.

I’m trying to understand this… first you had camera files that you transcoded to an unnamed QT Movie codec. Then you rendered out an h.264 file, then put that file in AME and recompressed it to a smaller h.264 file? That’s what I’m getting from this. That’s a lot of recompressing! I don’t know what codec you transcoded to, but you don’t want to render your final out twice to h.264, that will make your video look bad. You only want one really lossy render if you have to. If you need to render out to a larger master file, use something like ProRes or DNXHD or something. Then use that to render out your really lossy h.264 for Vimeo. And yes, you can get a good looking h.264 file at under 10,000 kbps. Larger doesn’t mean it will be better.
As far as your Target and Maximum rates, it should render close to your target. You’ll want to set the maximum a little more than the target rate just for those higher detail scenes, but AME will stick close to the target.
