thanks Floh
I am trying to create an XML for media 100 2.6.1 to send to my partner who will import and work with the program on his machine. He has the timecoded footage as well and hopefully he can re-link.Basicly, I have a Documentary project that has been through every version of m100 since 1990 and I am trying to get it onto my macbook so I can take it on the road.
So, I guess the easiest question to ask is how can I get the program and the bins from one platform to another as I am also using a new HD for the MAcbook?
I have the same version on both systems.best

hi Todd
Thanks
We are(were) shooting with 2 Alexas to the Log c format. I established a fairly agressive LUT at Mega Playground post in NYC. I have since moved on to an HBO show that will be shown next year.

I think personal preference comes into play here.
When I am on a job where the equipment is coming out of a rental house I always go with an O’Connor 2575 fluid head. A little large for your purposes but O’Connor makes a great head for all sizes.
However, I personally own a Cartoni head and sticks for personal projects with a canon 5d or HVX or something along those lines. It works great and the price is reasonable.
Try to get yourself to a place that has some demos.
One thing I can advise is that if you are doing productions that require operating off a head, do not get a cheap fluid head and sticks. You will drive yourself crazy trying to get smooth fluid moves.Todd McMullen

The one issue I seem to see here is that the Dp used the true light system here to establish a look.
If you by-pass his look with a plug in from someone else you are going to be compromising a look that they might have been going for. It sounds like a communication gap. The Dp was probably under the impression the luts would be recalled and used in the edit. Or maybe he thought there would be a grading session.
Interesting situation indeed.
I just finished shooting a pilot for NBC with the Alexa. I established a look in ny on a bones system but have to grade in la on a davinci. So I will have to have the ny post house send over my dailies lut files from there system that can be read on the la system. Just to have a base to work with. But I also confirmed that I would have a grading session before we started shooting. So I am covered either way and so are the post
I think workflow communication is essential in most digital productions these days.

I would also like to point out that while you may feel a DP is picky or concerned who his involved in the look of a show, it is often times that an experienced DP wants to make sure that a non-log look is presented to the director on the monitors while shooting.
When I was shooting film I would have my loader write “print for future employment” on the camera report, sarcastic but got the point across.
Its like showing a work in progress, people will say the get it but they usually don’t.
So a simple lut is usually a way to not have to continually explain the look of a log image.Todd McMullen

April 10, 2011 at 6:51 pm in reply to: Professional camera technique: changing a culture of over zoomingI love zooms for the simple fact of speed. I hate to halt production just to change a lens. When that happens the hair people run in, the make up people run in, the actors come out of character and the craft service person runs in with sandwiches. And if you do this 2o times a day your into an 18 hour day.
Now I am not saying this is always the case but with all the accessories on these cameras, motors for focus and iris, it is not always a quick change.
I Am currently shooting a 2 camera hand held Pilot using the Alexas and optimo zooms, and while we are not zooming during shots we are certainly able to re-frame and to keep shooting without stopping. The Actors love it.
So for me I love the idea of zooms. They also take a bite out of the sharpness of HD.
So while you may have the time to change lenses on your productions and you feel you need to change the culture of zooming, I am relying on zooms to keep the culture of employment.
