Under the hood, here are the steps: After Effects renders the composition frame according to your render settings; then it crops, stretches, et cetera the frame according to your output module settings; then—in the case of formats like H.264—the embedded Adobe Media Encoder compresses and encodes the movie.

This error occurs when the rendered frame that comes out of the output module doesn’t match the dimension expected by the Adobe Media Encoder.

When you click the Format Options button in the Output Module Settings dialog box, an H.264 Export Settings dialog box opens. The Comments field in this dialog box tells you what the frame size must be set to in the Output Module Settings dialog box.

MPEG formats (of which H.264 is one) are not flexible and friendly about frame sizes.

So, the solution is to set your settings in the Output Module Settings dialog box so that you’re giving the Adobe Media Encoder the frame size that it’s asking for.

The same thing applies to frame rates.

Yes, this is a poor user experience. I can assure you that improvements are being worked on.

What part of the Help document is unclear? I’d be happy to fix it. Here are the first two paragraphs from the page about Collect Files:

“The Collect Files command gathers copies of all of the files in a project or composition into a single location. Using this command is a useful step before rendering, for archiving, or for moving a project to a different computer system or user account.

When you use the Collect Files command, After Effects creates a new folder in which it saves a new copy of the project, copies of the footage files, proxy files as specified, and a report describing the files, effects, and fonts necessary to re-create the project and render the compositions.”

Yes, Offset should definitely be there. It’s included in the trial version of After Effects, too.

If the installer didn’t install this plug-in, that is mysterious.

There are some scripts for importing text into After Effects from a text file, including one on Chris Green’s site:

You could have your clients make the changes in a text file that you then pulled into your animation using such a script.

I don’t understand exactly what you’re asking. Perhaps this After Effects Community Help search for ‘chroma key’ will point you in the right direction.

If you’re just looking for general information on how to do chroma keying (color keying), then the keying introduction in After Effects Help might be a good place to start.

One tip: You might find that it’s easier to wiggle the hue value in HSL than to wiggle channels in RGB if you’re trying to “wiggle between different shades of red”. Other than that, you just wiggle color like any other multi-dimensional property, like Position.

There’s a section in After Effects Help about scaling movies up.

Keep in mind that scaling a bitmap/raster image up beyond its original resolution requires the software to, essentially, make up information. This is always going to cause some loss in quality.
