As Michael says, it seems that the porblem half of the time is that people are using the term ‘RAM preview’ incorrectly.
See “Preview video and audio” for details and instructions, including ways to just preview audio. If these instructions don’t work for you, let us know.

I actually have OpenGL rendering turned on for the OpenGL-Interactive preview mode. That helps for faster updates (with a transient tradeoff in visual fidelity) when I’m interacting with a layer property—like moving a layer.
But, other than that, Michael is right. Beyond making sure that you have a supported OpenGL card, there’s no point in spiffing up your graphics card just for After Effects.

Computer monitors have square pixels. If the playback will be on a computer monitor, the pixels in your output should be square.

I think that you’re missing the point that the while loop is running on just one frame. All expressions run to completion on just one frame. They do not span frames. The value of t (time) is not going to change at any point during your while loop.

It’s a simple matter of glows and blurs on footage of lights.
You’ll get best results with glows and blurs at a color bit depth of 32 bpc.

Taking a step back here:
Since you said that you’re new, I figured that you wouldn’t mind if I went back to basics.
Each layer has properties. Most properties have stopwatches, which means that you can animate them. You add additional properties to a layer in a few ways, including by applying effects. To add a hue property to a layer, you can add the Hue/Saturation effect.

I’m guessing that your animation isn’t defined with keyframes in the main, top-level timeline. After Effects doesn’t read animation that is defined by ActionScript or animation nested in timelines other than the top-level timeline.
