Yes, you need a specific license. The standard single-user retail license explicitly does not allow such use.

In the past, we released software once every 12-18 months.

We’ve released three versions with new features—and just now revealed a fourth—in 10 months.

That’s a lot more rapid, without “waiting”.

We do still need to bundle changes together so that we can package and broadly test features, installers, et cetera… as well as so that we can talk about the updates more easily than if we released an update every week with one feature change each.

Yes.

Think about what is happening: The OS and applications are read from the disk when the OS and applications start… and not much after that. The disk cache is read from and written to when the application has already been running for a while. There is no chance of these operations competing for the same resource at the same time.

Use that same thought process to answer your own question about whether the cache should be on the same footage as the disk cache: footage is read at approximately the same time as the disk cache being read, so there is a chance for competition for the same resource (in this case bus bandwidth and disk head seek).
