No easy way to convert 16×9 temps into 4×3 or vise versa. Wish there was…

Hello,

IF I were you, I would definitely stay away from the DV codec. ProRes is the usually the best choice for most projects, but if you’re computer can’t handle it, you could try AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) which doesn’t require as much bandwidth on your computer, but still looks great. Keep the senquence settings the same as your footage, i.e. 1080i, or 24p, etc.
Since you’re dealing with HD footage, it will look the best to keep it as high as quality as you can, then render down for the web as the last step.

Yes,

Compressor is a quick install. I believe it’s still on the DVDSP disk. Under the install options, just choose compressor checkbox.

Either export through FCP as 48khz movies or (I prefer) use QuickTime Pro to export the files before importing to FCP.
If you’re worried about links, save and take the 44.1 files offline and relink media to the new 48 files. Done

Hi Mark,

Just a shot, but do you have different makers of RAM installed?

Found out through a colleague that you need to install ram in ‘sets’ of matching 2 per side. Meaning you need to have 4 matching RAM sticks -2 per side.

I didn’t think it could be a RAM problem-drives, pref, etc. BUT it was RAM. Once all the RAM was even, the performance came back.
Here’s an apple spec, but there’s a better one that I couldn’t fine.

Nope, you’ll need a DVCAM deck to record or playback to the DVCAM format. The ‘pitch’ and speed of the DVCAM tape is different the standard MiniDV.

As Tom mentioned. FCP Studio 6 change the import of P2. So Shane’s tutorial is great and correct *expect* you now use the “Log and Transfer” under the file menu-instead of the P2 transfer.

Hi Jane,

I’m not sure the “3D” for you text is going to do what you think it’s going to do…
It does not create 3D text, rather it lets you work with the layer in 3D space.
Please disregard if I’m off base.

Darby is correct, you’ll need a camera, pointing in the right direction to ‘see’ you’re 3D layer and to change the POV.
