    Hello

actually Dave’s comment about the actual content guidelines does bring up a great question where would one find a comprehensive listing of broadcast safe guidelines in terms of bars & tone, gamma and or luma levels and anything else that broadcasters would need to approve in order for spots to be considered “viewable”

my gut feeling is that each broadcaster has it’s own set of rules (with regards to regional spots) but is there perhaps a north american (US) standard that most of these broadcasters base their rules on

    thanks

    Hello JJ:

I read your post and I thought “THANK GOD IT’S NOT JUST ME”

I’ll be honest you probably have a head and shoulder advantage over me

my background is corporate video (mostly marketing sales / consumer focus group stuff)

I have posted here on the cow and shared a version of my reel and I was torn a constructive and well needed new one

but like you I have been told I am over qualified (I was even told that by an NYC effects house that I wanted to intern for..I wanted to work for F***in free and they still said no!!!

I am fortunate in the sense that I have a gig (vidoetaping lectures at a college) so I don’t “need” a new job but ….

the point being keep sending out the reel, if you are able to be flexible in you geographic location look in major markets (if you are not already) and always have a plan
    best of luck to you

    take care

  • Hello all

ok here is what I ended up doing

    shot video in dv/sd format

ended up changing the cature preset to HDV Apple Intermediate Codec : which TRANSCOES the HDV into an sd readable format (at least that is what I think is happening under the hood)

also used HDV Firewire Basic for Device Control

the log and capture window is VERY different from the old L&C from sd video …in and out point cans be set but it seems to like to go straight into a capture now mode

ALSO I had to set the camera’s iLink output button to Mpeg as opossed to dv (not an intuitive thing but after trial an error)

another word of caution…playback during L&C lags behind and you can NOTICE IT don’t panic it all seems to have worked out fine in the end
data rates and file sizes are higer

take care and thanks to all who helped

  • Hello Will

    thank you for your suggestion

would you recommend Logic Pro Express or should I just go with Logic Pro

the main reason for my question is because I have never seen Logic marketed to video (or animation) producers exculsively I have only ever seen demos that are music producer oriented

    thank you for your help

  • Hello all

first off thanks to everyone for your insight …. I do remember reading about the 2gb limit a year or two ago

anyway we left the lacie drive pc formatted (default) because at some point down the line we may want to have a pc network into the video files and allow one of our student work study employees to work with the media files on premiere so it seems like we’ll have to capture video on the machines locally and upload the files to the ethernet drive

just out of curiosity, are any of you out there using large storage drives like this in your workflow perhaps you have some tips and tricks to share

    again thanks to everyone

take care and keep cool as someone told mother nature it was summer in north east ohio and she is kickin ass

  • Hello again all

my original question may not have had enough details so I will begin again

In my office I have 2 imacs

    imac1 is a g5 powermac

imac 2 is a dualcore intl mac

both macs have seperate seats of final cut studio running on them

at home I have a G5 dektop and a G4 laptop each of them have a seat of Final cut studio running as well

I created a project at home on the g5 and brought the hard drive with all the material into the office connected that to the intel imac and tried to open the project I recieved a dialog box that stated the project could not be opened

it stands to reason that a few others out there might be in a situation where the own G4 or G5 macs running fcp5x on them and may also have access to the new mac running the universal install as well and perhaps they ran into the same situation

the replys I have seen thus far suggest that fcp5.1 is not backwards compatible with fcp5.0x

thanks again for any help or insight

  • Thank you Simon
for what it’s worth I teach at a community college so we have good equipment but it’s never going to be the best of the best to begin with so for me at home really I just need a card that will allow me to work with the software so I can go through a few step and complete a project so that while I am in class I’m not discovering things as we go

so as far as price goes I woud like to saty under $200 if possible because I’ll most likely upgrade to a dual core mac sometime in 2007 anyway

    take care and thank you

February 1, 2006 at 7:19 pm in reply to: use the show in finder feature

thank you for the response I tried it… pretty cool

my original question came from this response to someone asking how they could use iTunes audio in fcp5 here is what they said

FCP doesn’t want to handle the compression you have on your audio. Yes, the sample rate might be 44.1, but I’ll be they’re acc or mp3.

Change to aif and export back out of iTunes… set your itunes preferences to encode at AIFF (might as well go for 48k 16 bit because that’s what DV is anyway.

Then let it encode. I use the show in finder feature and then drag that file directly into my browser window inside FCP.

again thank you for the response

    take care
