    Hello all

I am using a 17inch Imac with a 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo processor with 1Gig or ram running OS 10.4.9

    I have FCP5.1.4 running

my boss bought the department a GR-HD1 last week
the mandate was shoot some video with it and tell me what you think

well I admit I am not one to read every instruction in the manual and I opted for the it’ll all work out in the end school of thought

I literally took the camera out of the box, let the battery charge and went outside to shoot some footae….
and I hoped that once I pluged the deck in via the iLink port all would be well

    not so

the deck is recognized but I get no preview during log and capture and I cannot capture

I did a search of the cow archives and stumbled across a post from Jan 07 which basically suggested looking into Quicktimes Mpeg 2 playback plugin

I have QTpro o this machine..is addidtional software needed

and I am sure there must be an easy setup configuration I need to either create or select

if anyone has any suggestions that would be wonderful

just in case I am not making myself clear here is a recap

    I have an intel Imac
    running os 10.4.9
    I have fcp5.1.4
    I have a JVC GR-HD1 camera
I shot video on the camera using the dv setting
I brought the camera back to the imac
    connect the two via firewire
I can open FCP and do log and capture
    I get preview disabled
    but I have device control
    I cannot capture video

I need to know if I csn capture video using this camera and my current fcp setup or if I need additional software

    thank you all in advance

I think that camera’s device control setting needs to be set to HDV FireWire Basic for it to work right.. try that and post back if it doesn’t work OK.

    Hello all

ok here is what I ended up doing

    shot video in dv/sd format

ended up changing the cature preset to HDV Apple Intermediate Codec : which TRANSCOES the HDV into an sd readable format (at least that is what I think is happening under the hood)

also used HDV Firewire Basic for Device Control

the log and capture window is VERY different from the old L&C from sd video …in and out point cans be set but it seems to like to go straight into a capture now mode

ALSO I had to set the camera’s iLink output button to Mpeg as opossed to dv (not an intuitive thing but after trial an error)

another word of caution…playback during L&C lags behind and you can NOTICE IT don’t panic it all seems to have worked out fine in the end
data rates and file sizes are higer

take care and thanks to all who helped
