My apologies for missing your -, I assumed it was just your indent or way of pointing out the code 🙂 Your method with the – works like a charm as well. Thanks again Dan.

Thanks a lot Dan! While that rotated everything around the null, they didn’t continue to face the front. I got it working thanks to another post by adding *-1 to the end of the expression. Works like a charm!

    Thanks again for the help.

August 29, 2006 at 3:41 pm in reply to: dual monitor question

I agree with what DDubious said. I’ve been using AE on duel monitors since version 5 I believe on my PC with no problems. There is no setting in AE to do it, it is simply a matter of how you have your dual monitor setup configured with your graphics card.

Some graphics cards come with software that will add another icon on toolbars next to the max/min/close icons that will basically maximize the window to both monitors. It works, but I found it buggy sometimes in the past so stopped using it.

What I have used for years now is just what Dubious said. You simply UNmaximize your AE window, then manually drag the width of it across both monitors. At that point you can put whatever you want on either monitor. Basically it sounds like your AE window is maximized to your primary monitor therefore you can obviously not drag anything outside of the AE window (or onto your second monitor in this case), unmaximizing and manually scaling your AE app windwo to both monitors solves this.

John and others thanks so much for the help, I converted it to a .wav and it plays flawlessly.. That tip will be good to know in the future when I am provided with mp3’s. I had no idea there was that bug. Thanks again for the help, working great now.

John thanks for the tip, I am actually in the process of downloading a converter now to change it to wav.. Is this a known issue with AE ? First time I’ve run into it and it seems like it shoulda been something they fixed by now.

Steve, no I didn’t try any of those, I can’t render in tga because I need the audio there. I did try different compression settings, but not different codecs (i always use photo jpeg). I figure why should I have to go out of my way using crazy tricks to just render a 30 second clip with audio? There is no excuse for stuttering, I just don’t get it.

Vince, the audio is mp3 format. As I said, it plays fine in RAM and audio previews, its just after render 🙁 I will try for the funk of it just to render as animation codec and see if that works, but I won’t like the file size.

December 6, 2005 at 10:57 pm in reply to: 3D max and After Effects…. cant find my Alpha!

AVI does not support alpha, never has that I know of, and probably never will. That was your problem.

Secondly you could have had this question answered in 15 seconds by just opening the manual and looking in the index under alpha, or better yet, the help files and typing in “alpha” for the index search.

Everytime I hear questions like this I instantly am amazed at how lazy some people must be, or, amazed at how many people download cracked versions of software then have the audacity to post questions on how to use it.

As others have said, 32 bit TGA, PNG, quicktime ANimation codec are all valid options for alpha. Although from a 3d package I would suggest tga, or png sequences instead.

Just finished download, tweaked the sliders and settings and it is actually BETTER than the Delirium plugin I was using. Thanks a lot Mike! You solved the problem, AND made it look even better! If only the Cow had rep points, you’d be getting a bunch from me 🙂
