What version of AE are you using? Should be no problem in AE 7, but in older versions certain interface elements cannot exist outside the main window. You would then need to maximize you main window to both screens.

Upgrade to 7 und you can (nearly) do what ever you want AND it’s much better than 6.5!

    Just my 2 cents…

If you’re on a pc then ‘un-maximise’ the main window and drag the main window’s grey area so that it covers both screens. You can then move AE 6.5’s windows where-ever you want inside its work area.

    Hope that helps.

I agree with what DDubious said. I’ve been using AE on duel monitors since version 5 I believe on my PC with no problems. There is no setting in AE to do it, it is simply a matter of how you have your dual monitor setup configured with your graphics card.

Some graphics cards come with software that will add another icon on toolbars next to the max/min/close icons that will basically maximize the window to both monitors. It works, but I found it buggy sometimes in the past so stopped using it.

What I have used for years now is just what Dubious said. You simply UNmaximize your AE window, then manually drag the width of it across both monitors. At that point you can put whatever you want on either monitor. Basically it sounds like your AE window is maximized to your primary monitor therefore you can obviously not drag anything outside of the AE window (or onto your second monitor in this case), unmaximizing and manually scaling your AE app windwo to both monitors solves this.
