I agree, constructing the effect yourself is very satisfying. However, for speed, I recently bought “Twitch” from Video Copilot and it comes with a great 8mm overlay which has allsorts of dust and scratches on it. You can use the plugin itself to add the light flicker and even simulate a bad film gate.

Once it’s rendered out whatever I view it in shows the increase, QT player, also if I bring it into Vegas. I must say I hadn’t thought to bring it back into AE to see what it was like.

I’ve used Xilisoft video converter 3 for that sort of thing. It seems to be pretty good and simple, just how I like it.

Thanks for the advice. Everything seems to be fine for the moment, I’m sure if it happens again I’ll be straight back on here “harassing” you again.
Steve, as things are fine at the moment task manager tells me I’m peaking at about 1800mb, with plenty left to spare. Stupidly I didn’t run task manager when I was having the problems.
