Hi there all, I’m new to this forum, but I have already read all the “out of memory” threads but can’t seem to find an answer.

Example: I created a 1280×720 composition to try some pretty simple 3d animation. It was made up of 3 x 3d layers, 1 x light and 1 x camera. It has a couple of basic effects including motion blur turned on. And it lasts 18 secs. When trying to render out at “Best”, it tells me I don’t have enough memory to apply blurring. I take off all the motion blur and the same thing happens.

Also I do tend to get the general out of memory warning during the editing too.

I have done the “secret” menu trick, which seemed to work for a while. I can’t think what else to do.

    Any ideas?

    Using:
    3ghz Dual core AMD
    4gb RAM (XP 32 so 3gb detected)
    2 x 8500GT
    2 x 500gb Samsung 7200rpm

Does Task Manager indicate that you’re actually running out of RAM as you work?

[Toby Rocke] “When trying to render out at “Best”, it tells me I don’t have enough memory to apply blurring. I take off all the motion blur and the same thing happens. “

AE may also be referring to shadow diffusion when it says that it does not have enough memory to apply blurring, are your lights casting diffuse shadows? Double check to make sure you’re not using a large Shadow Map (Go to Composition Settings > Advanced > Options…). The default value here is Comp Size, which works well in most cases.

Also make sure that your Memory & Cache settings are optimal. Set Maximum Memory Usage to a value around 120% (paging files allow you to use more than 100%, don’t go above 200%). Make sure your Maximum RAM Cache Size is around 50-60%. Enable the Disk Cache and set it to at least 2000MB (optional). Also check the box that says something about DLL Fragmentation (or something like that, it’s been a while since I’ve used a windows machine).

Thanks for the advice. Everything seems to be fine for the moment, I’m sure if it happens again I’ll be straight back on here “harassing” you again.

Steve, as things are fine at the moment task manager tells me I’m peaking at about 1800mb, with plenty left to spare. Stupidly I didn’t run task manager when I was having the problems.
