Thanks Craig,
I also have a licensed version of MC 5.5 and had the same problem. The solution you’ve outlined above worked great.Just to clarify, I DID trash the the folder at Library/Application Support/PACE Anti-Piracy first. Then simply ran the installer I downloaded from https://www.paceaps.com.
No problems whatsoever now. No twenty annoying pop ups to click through before getting into Media Composer.

Hi Rob,
First, decide what your final output settings will be. Let’s say for the web you’re going to output to 1280×720. I would cut the show for pacing & content in a same as source sequence.Once you’ve got all your cuts made, then I’d put it in a 1280×720 sequence. Your uncropped angle will simply scale down, and your other two angles you can pan and scan to achieve the crop you’re looking for.
Then follow Jeff’s advice about copying and pasting attributes for each angle.

Jim,
My guess is that your HDV footage is at least part of the problem, HDV is a nasty format to work with. Your best bet is to transcode the HDV footage from the get go.You can transcode to ProRes as you ingest the HDV footage.
Also, in your sequence settings, make sure on the “Render Control” tab, in the “Render” box you have “Apple ProRes422 [HDV, XDCAM HD/EX/HD422 only]” selected in the “Codec” drop down menu.

Nattress Standards Conversion is an inexpensive option, that will cost you a nice chunk of render time. The quality is great, the process isn’t hard but there are several, very particular steps.
Compressor is also an option. The trick in Compressor is making sure that your frame controls are set to “best”.

November 19, 2008 at 3:11 am in reply to: Final Cut, Kona, D5 (AJ HD3700B) output issues.Yep. All new sequences also had new names.
Good tip about the render files though, I did trash all render files and after re-rendering got the same result.
When I left tonight I had three shows go down without incident from the original Master Sequences I created for them. The final fix was trashing all the .plist files and creating a new User setting in the OS.
Why that only affected the D5 output, I’ll never know.

November 18, 2008 at 1:23 pm in reply to: Final Cut, Kona, D5 (AJ HD3700B) output issues. Thanks for the opinion Gary,
Allow me to clarify. The original show 2 Master Sequence plays without incident. It outputs to DigiBeta without incident, and we’ll soon see if it outputs to DVCPro without incident (I’m guessing it will).
The exact same Show 2 Master Sequence, which had the EXACT workflow (copying and pasting segments) as Show 1 going to the D5 machine doesn’t work.
The fix/work around was to create a new Show 2 and re-edit the segments into a new sequence. That shouldn’t make a bit of difference.
You can call it editor error, but thats not going help anyone else that has this issue.

November 17, 2008 at 9:53 pm in reply to: Final Cut, Kona, D5 (AJ HD3700B) output issues.UPDATE:
The second and protection copy of Show 1 again went down without problems.
The second and protection copy of show 2 failed at the same spot as the first time.I created a new sequence and rather than copying and pasting each segment into the new timeline, I re-edited each segment in from the viewer. Now its working.
Like I said. Head-scratcher. Leave logic at the door.
Hope this helps someone else someday.

November 17, 2008 at 7:12 pm in reply to: Final Cut, Kona, D5 (AJ HD3700B) output issues. Here are more of my system specs:
Mac OS X 10.5.5
FCP 6.0.4
QT 7.5.5
AJA Kona 3 (Control panel software says version 6.0)What driver info would be helpful?
Not sure where to look for those specifics. The thing that I’m most perplexed about is that Show 1 output without issue. And I’m typing this as I’m laying the second pass of Show 1 to D5, again without issues. I expect to hit the wall again at Show 2. But I’ve checked and doubled checked and re-checked the settings from Sequence to Sequence. They are the same.
