  • issue – MC 5.5 freezes on startup

Posted by Jon Nealon on March 17, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Just installed the trial version of 5.5.

But when I load it up it freezes when it begins to initialize audio plugins. I get the following message: Error #-5000 while verifying your authorization. Unknown error.

Any thoughts…Is there some sort of plugin incompatability? How do I resolve this? I can’t figure this one out.

just upgraded to OS 10.6.6 in order to upgrade avid.

repaired my hard drive for permissions – didn’t do anything..

Any and all help is appreciated! I will buy you a coffee.

    Thanks – Jon

Jon, I am currently experiencing this exact same issue. Not trial version though, just bought the upgrade.

I did everything as usual, updated dongle and activated via dongle when opening the new software for the first time. Repaired permissions, restarted computer and still same error.

Currently uninstalling software. Then hopefully during install I will have activation options again, and this time planning on choosing the System ID and Serial Number option.

Will post afterward with news, good or bad.

Ok, after some googling, I did the following and it worked, sort of. Now it’s giving me a similar error about Boris CC plugins, but at least the Avid opens.

    1. Reset my permissions on my Mac HD to Read and Write (for some reason my personal user setting was no longer there).

    2. Go to https://www.paceap.com and download their Mac drivers (conveniently located on first page).

    3. Once it mounts, use uninstaller, then install LicenseSupport.mpkg

** If I had it to do over again, I might have first tried trashing the folder at Library/Application Support/PACE Anti-Piracy and then just tried the installer. I’m not sure if running the uninstaller somehow messed with the BCC effects authorization, but will deal with that more on Monday.

    Good luck!

Uninstalled/re-installed BCC 4.2 FX and still same annoying error message:

“Unable to verify authorization. Please install Boris Continuum Complete from the original distribution CD-ROM.”

It goes away after clicking OK about 15 times. And effects work in the Avid. Just annoying error at this point. Not sure what to do.

    Ugh.

    Thanks Craig,
I also have a licensed version of MC 5.5 and had the same problem. The solution you’ve outlined above worked great.

Just to clarify, I DID trash the the folder at Library/Application Support/PACE Anti-Piracy first. Then simply ran the installer I downloaded from https://www.paceaps.com.

No problems whatsoever now. No twenty annoying pop ups to click through before getting into Media Composer.
