Yes, you can use the audio line out to monitor audio and output the 3 to a monitor. I did this for years. Obviously you’d want the audio and monitor the be off the same deck, but sometimes you just have to make things work. I think you can even get the break out box for pretty cheap now anyway, so if/when the time comes, just upgrade. The Kona 3 works fine and if you have everything set up properly, there shouldn’t be any lag.

June 4, 2013 at 10:57 am in reply to: Advice on creating render friendly pillar-boxes on multi-layer, 6+ hour sequence? 16:9 video with 4:3 Epiphan layer above. In the past, I’d just create my 16×9 slide timeline with all the FX and pillars and whatever and export/render it out overnight as ProRes 422 (LT in some instances). Sure it’s an extra step and weight on the computer, but the tradeoff is being able to work much quicker the next day. Then it’s simply a multicam setting using 2 movie streams. Much quicker and easier. Hope this helps

Thanks Adam. I kinda figured that to be the case, but since everything I’ve heard has been all about Ae integration, I was merely curious if anyone had heard otherwise.

May 13, 2013 at 2:12 pm in reply to: Use motion tracking data to generate a path/stroke – how? That’s a darn good question. It can be done somewhat easily in C4d and probably other 3d programs, but I’m not sure about in Ae. Maybe using trapcode 3d stroke and/or echospace? Sorry I couldn’t be much help…

No, you don’t have to keep Pr open when using the queue. Once it’s been entered in to the queue, you can close the program or open another project and work.

I’m gonna start a debate about whether or not I want to post in the current forum or in the new creative cloud or not: the debate. This will probably require another bookmark in my bookmark manager, and I’m just not sure I’m ready to commit to that… 🙂

We still have a Apple g4 running 10.4 and FCP7 connected to a beta deck for tape export. Do this type of job for long enough, and you’ll find out grasping at straws comes up more than you think. We still run older computers on our 3d renders. I’ve learned its best not to run in to something without some sort of backup plan, and this “forever pay us to access our software” raises red flags long term.
