    Hey Tim. Thanks for replying.

    Form was my initial inkling as well, and it may well be the case. But there’s something about the way the mask initially poofs up that appears more dynamic than what I’ve seen with Form. I’m no Form expert so maybe there is a way.

    it’s nothing automated…

    Just some random smoke footage, bought or created with fumefx or turbulence FD. Hand positioned with some liquify effect and some distorts.

    Blend modes and fades well placed. perhaps a better quality reference would help narrow it down. it’s a little blurry that one.

    I believe I enabled people to download the original file, that would be as good as it gets it terms of quality.

    I have a some stock footage of smoke and have been trying to use liquify but I’m not getting the same results. Others have told me the easiest way to do this would be with fumefx in 3ds Max. Problem is, I don’t have nor know my way around 3ds.
