By that logic, 2 lines up it says (void)importiMovieProject:(800)arg1. So they obviously haven’t figured out if they want it to be iMovie Pro or FCP.

Truth be told (and after spending quite a few tens of thousands on equipment over the years), the only thing that was really holding us back from PC was FCP. All of the other programs we utilize operate on both (C4d, AE/Adobe Production Suite, etc), but we were spending some big money on Mac Pro’s, XServes (now discontinued), XSAN and Raids primarily for the FCP editing and media.
So now with the demise of FCP, we’ve realized we can purchase a couple of PC’s for the price of a Mac Pro and easily farm out renders. With Avid and Premiere both running on either platform, we’ve decided to start just moving to the PC platform. The costs of upgrades to a different editing platform along with compatible plugins will pay for themselves within a year or two as the allocated budgets toward computing machines will be far less.
I’ve been impressed (and I didn’t think it possible) with Windows 7 overall; and I guess overall I’m glad now that Apple did what they did. We’ll continue to use what we have, but there isn’t any reason to purchase any new “toys” at Apple now. These last few years have seen Apple innovate, while others have taken Apples concepts to a whole new level, (Android, Google, Amazon, etc) while Apple moseys forward to keep up. It’s like they come up with a great idea, and then move on. Case and point; FCP Studio. But honestly, one should never trust a company. They are in the market for profits and generally will do whatever it takes to increase its profits. Apple’s profits are in its smaller toys. Go in to any Apple store and you’ll see there are 30 casual shoppers to 1 business pro. I kinda had a feeling when the “business department” was cut to one guy to handle an entire quarter of the U.S.. Live and let live, it’s time to move on. The artists that once made the product are no longer welcome. Unless you do it their way. (Wasn’t that what they were originally fighting against in 1984? Fight the system, buy a Mac???)

Yet another reason why I like AJA. Their customer support, reps that visit user groups and other events, and overall value is unmatched. Another hardware/software company could certainly learn a thing or two about them.
Again, for the record, while I wasn’t impressed with the Ki Pro Mini, nearly every other product has impressed me. That certainly won’t stop me in the future considering any and all AJA products!
Thanks for listening to the forums, usergroups, and events that you participate in and for your overall support of pre/post production! You guys really are a stand up company(No, I don’t work for AJA….LOL)

I recently tested out the mini and wasn’t impressed overall. Everything from the cost standpoint (nearly $4k once batteries, external mounting options and CFcards were obtained) to what you listed above. We are looking into Blackmagics Hyperdeck shuttle/studio as maybe a much more cost effective route, and also a major difference in transfer times. With being able to purchase a single docking station at $25 and SSD drives continuing to reduce in price, it’s almost a no-brainer. Granted, I would prefer the proRes recording against uncompressed just for disk space, but it’s hard to argue an approx $2k difference overall.
I’m a fan of AJA, don’t get me wrong. But sometimes a good company misses the mark.Tim

June 23, 2011 at 6:52 pm in reply to: Bummed on FCPX, too bad Avid MC5 is back to full priceI just went on Avid and entered my serial #. The e-mailed me a code and a link; and when I went to check out, I applied the code. Cost comes to $998.00. Seems they are still honoring the discount!
Good bye FCP. Good bye Apple.
When you can purchase PC’s for $1k that are nearly as fast as a $7k pro, and every other piece of software you use is capable on both platforms, well…. As a long Apple fan, I am truly sorry to see it end this way. It’s like a girl (or boy depending on your preference) who’s decided to break up with you for someone else. That pretty much sums up how this has become.Tim

Part of me thinks that previous versions of FCP have been lagging heavily, and the “new” features that were offered really were a disappointment overall. For those who are forced to rely on secondary programs to achieve much better results for such a simple thing as text animation and graphical integration, FCP has merely been the tool to give a overall edit and provide markers. Apple has been very content the last few years to go after to iTunes/iPod/iPad/iPhone market, and has not devoted nearly as much toward the further development of their proapps suite. So we’ve really watched as companies such as Adobe and Avid and others have made leaps and bounds in overall development while Apple has released “updates” to a strong but simple editor.
Couple that in with the removal of their xserve and xraid (I don’t argue that one), Apple has been eliminating its business mindset in favor of consumer/prosumer. Honestly, the FCP suite as a whole has become less dependent in my business overall while other vendors who are focused on developing their suites are taking over. I think the only thing I use in the suite now is FCP, and everything else is done much better by other programs. But that’s just my opinion over why the pro’s are losing out (in certain aspects) with Apple.
That being said, I do agree with you that we need to wait and actually see for ourselves what will be and will not be offered before rushing to judgement. I admit, though, mentioning iMovie in a presentation to pro’s is probably not the best thing in the world to do….Tim

That type tool looks interesting. Almost like one would be able to click on it and start typing in the canvas. Also looks like the audio meters that reside on the side (currently) have expanded to include secondary tracks, without having to open a window. I don’t know….Be great to find out further info on the product, including compressor (?) and/or DVD/BD/Web integration. Avid is looking real good these days….

One way is to set up (within the pre-comp) the opacity to and from, then in the main comp, adjust the time remapping. For instance, in the pre-comp, frame 1 is photo 1; frame 2, photo 2, etc. Then in the main comp, with time remapping applied, just call on the associated keyframe desired.
Hope this helps

March 30, 2011 at 10:58 am in reply to: Rendering My First AE Comp For Local TV BroadcastPersonally, I’ve found the photo jpg codec to work with my local stations. They are able to play that effortlessly on their systems whether that be Mac or PC. And it makes for less upload times (if delivering via FTP) than a lossless codec. But that’s what works on this end for me…
Hope this helpsTim

I don’t know about automatically, but one can always view the waveforms on the timeline for the higher peaks and scrub around that way.
