Fields. Plain and simple, it’s a field issue. HD is generally upper and SD is generally lower (based solely on standards, which it sounds to me you are doing). The best way is to export the HD to SD DVD, changing (in compressor) the fields from upper to progressive frame rate. For good quality settings, I’d recommend : (Under Frame Controls–turning it on) Resize Filter to better, output fields to progressive, Deinterlace to better, and going with the rate conversion on best. You can go higher or lower on these settings, (higher WILL be a lot longer) but I’ve found this to provide acceptable results.
But that’s just what works for me…. 🙂

Are you up to date with all the updates? Both AE and Sapphire? And yes, unchecking Enable OpenGL is pretty much a “must” when working in AE. I highly recommend against it, period.

I’ve seen this once or twice. It isn’t crashing, just switching to from the GPU to the CPU. Performance might lag, but the results will still be the same. Click okay, and sit around and wait. It will render out fine. (Or has, in all of my cases)

These guys came to one of our user group meeting and did a presentation for DSLR camera’s and field production. https://www.smallhd.com/site/home.html
Their product was virtually indestructible, high definition, extremely versatile, and inexpensive.Tim

I don’t have the HP Dreamcolor, but I do have the Flanders Scientific LM-1770w and can attest to the quality of the monitor. The owner of the company (Flanders) came to our FCP User Group meeting and did a presentation of the monitors; and not only were we impressed with the overall quality and presentation, but of his personal commitment to their customers. I’ve had mine for about a year now and it has exceeded my expectations in a monitor, and I’ve been extremely satisfied and would highly recommend their equipment. And no, I do not work for them (nor do I receive discounts for this post…LOL)

ProRez is decent for keying; I just used it a few weeks ago with excellent results. The HQ does mean high quality. As for obtaining maximum results utilizing codecs, the number one thing is not the post production process; but the pre and production process itself that will generate the best results. To obtain the best keys, you need proper lighting, technique and good cameras. The better the camera, the better the key in most scenarios. In the end, if you take DV footage shot on the lowest consumer grade DV camera and wrap it up in the best codec possible and achieve the exact same results: crap.
As for the basics of the ProRes codec, here is a link. https://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/finalcutpro/apple-prores.htmlI hope this helps.

Yeah, just ignore that dude. I found it was a plugin that wasn’t updated that was crashing the program. Be sure to check if all your plugins are up to date. Hope this helps.

This isn’t going to help, but I’m having the same exact problem except with Encore CS5 (On an Intel G5 Mac Pro). Everything was working a few weeks ago; and for whatever reason it now just crashes at the splash screen. My CS4 version works, so I’m using that until whatever they “fixed” gets unfixed. -I haven’t installed anything new in the last few months; no new cards, software….etc. It just stopped working. Weird.

Dude, don’t you know that you shouldn’t be editing for professional work, but for ipad/iphone? I mean; really, do you really expect them to take their experts OFF the ipad research and development for something like Final Cut studio??? C’mon, man, get in the game! It’s all about creating and editing movies on the iphone, so why put any real thought and effort into something like FCP studio????
Oh, and while we’re at it, kill the xserve. Nobody really needs that. Use the iMac or the mini for your business purposes. Rack mount a few MacPro’s that take up endless space, man.Ever get the feeling you’re in a Monty Python sketch, where everything is “mostly great, but….” FCP Studio is mostly great, but….the didn’t want to go further….

Heck, don’t use openGL at all. Save you a headache overall.
