I have mo idea on the release date, BUT there is talk (rumor, talk, speculation–all at your own risk) that around or after IBC there could be some sort of release date or maybe just an announcement. IBC is just around the corner, I believe, so maybe in a week or two we’ll know more. Hopefully. I personally do not know anything at all, but I’m hoping there is some merit to this speculation.

No, other than what’s posted on their site. I think I ended up sending them an e-mail, which took about a day to get a reply. Maybe they have a chat window?? I’d highly recommend that if they do–I’ve had great success on “chats” with other companies, but never tried Avid.

I went a completely different route. I uninstalled the trial version, then went to Avid’s site and inputted my FCP serial number, to which they sent me the confirmation e-mail containing the discount code. You then click the link (or go directly to Avid’s site) and order it.
Because it is a full production version, it will be mailed and not downloaded. They have 6 (extra) discs including Boris Continuem complete, Sorenson Squeeze, Sonic, and more. It comes rather quickly, but if you need to renew the trial version while you wait, I think you just have to contact them. I’m pretty sure they’ll renew the trial, but don’t quote me on that. Personally, I’m a huge fan of the Voightlander 25mm f/.95 lens. Outstanding results and flexibility.

Hahaha No, brother! There isn’t any “love” for rotoscoping! hahaha But like you eluded to, when something isn’t planned in pre, the alternatives are somewhat limited. I’ve tried AE’s rotobrush, and frankly I’ve found the manual way just a bit easier and cleaner overall in the long run. Especially when doing a tight track.

All in all, it should be pretty simple. Just do a somewhat close rotoscope of her for the time you need, then apply a stroke around the mask of her, and there ya go. Depending on the thickness of the stroke should dictate how close of a mask you roto–the thinner the stroke the more accurate the roto. But by applying a stroke around the roto’d subject you have a bit of leeway. From there, you are able to adjust the overall color of the subject and whatever else FX you want.

First, there’s some rumors (rumors, I don’t know exactly) that Maxon is prepping a new upgrade. And from what I’ve heard, the MSA is supposed to be a bit less expensive than the full upgrade. So if you are thinking about upgrading, it might be best to wait a week or three? Or, if you are eligible, renew the MSA?
As for the rest of your question, on the Maxon website under Online store, the upgrades are listed. Take a look at what you currently have and what you’d want to upgrade to. The individual items like Mograph and Advanced Render to my knowledge are not sold separately any longer. You can also check out the product comparison chart to see what you might need and make your decision off that. Anyway, I hope this helps

It is entirely possible and extremely easy to do, providing you have a small intranet set up where each computer can see the master controller and access the masters hard drive(s). Of course, you will need to verify each render computer has fonts, plugins, and any other add-on. The only drawback is render speed on each computer. The Mac Pro or desktop with a higher processing power is going to render out much faster than the mini’s, but having 10 mini’s “daisy chained” together is going to definitely speed up the time. Also, I’ve heard (though not experimented) that mixing processors can yield different results. I’d recommend staying with 1 type. (If Mac, they use the Intel processor. Adding a couple Intel PC’s haven’t affected my results at all)
Go for it, I say. C4d render farm is extremely versatile and quite easy to set up. Very easy…

On the top toolbar is Animation–>Browse Presets. (Or, you can open Adobe Bridge and navigate to /Applications/Adobe After Effects CS/Presets/Text ) By clicking on the thumbnail in bridge, the animation will show up in the Bridge preview window

The odd thing is, so many “pros” –and they’re quick to tell you!– have joined the cow just this month (June). I guess now to become a pro, all you have to do is purchase software that has pro in the title. And to think, all this time I thought it was due to education, understanding, and years put in. I had no idea a pro was also dependent on how many family/friend videos uploaded to social networking sites.
