    Used mediainfo to check DVD:

    VTS_01_0.IFO shows 53:07 DVD
VTS_01_1.VOB shows :26 sec (duration); file size (1GB)
VTS_01_2.VOB shows :11 sec (duration); file size (1GB)
VTS_01_3.VOB shows :25 sec (duration); file size (1GB)
VTS_01_4.VOB shows :13 sec (duration); file size (417 MB)

When Avidemux is used to reconvert to MJPEG and PCM (in AVI cont) I get the complete video but with a little blurring with any movement.

    Frustrated!

It’s a recording of my church’s Sunday service. It’s not copyrighted.
I’m at a total loss. No matter what destination (C: hdd, external hdd, or flash drive) the same result occurs.

    Suggestions / thoughts?

    Thanks

[John Rofrano] “You should import the DVD using the Vegas menu item: File | Import | DVD Camcorder Disc…”

When I attempt to import the DVD (to a destination folder on desktop) using the File | Import | DVD Camcorder Disc option all that happens is it runs for a few seconds then stops, leaving an empty folder. Am I doing something incorrectly?

I’m not sure why, but when I change ext of four .vob files to .mpg and drop them into timeline here’s what I get:
vts_01_1.mpg – original size = .99GB; after dropped onto timeline = 14.08 seconds of footage
    vts_01_2.mpg – original size = .99GB; after dropped onto timeline = 15:49.08 of footage
vts_01_3.mpg – original size = .99GB; after dropped onto timeline = 11.17 seconds of footage
vts_01_4.mpg – original size = 416MB; after dropped onto timeline = 12.14 seconds of footage

If played normally in DVD player, it is 50+ minutes of footage.

Getting frustrated! I’m not sure what or why it’s happening.

    John,

I tried File | Import | DVD camcorder disc to import files from disc to desktop folder and it didn’t work! It started running for a few seconds then quit leaving an empty destination folder. Did I do something incorrectly?

Using windows explorer, I did a drag/drop to desktop folder and the files copied over fine although they are still .vob files. At this point, do I need to reconvert them to another format before editing? I will be adding generated text media and fx.

Sorry for the redundancy but I want to do this correctly.

    Thanks for all the help!

[John Rofrano] “Which means he renamed several .VOB files to .MPG files and then tried to recombine them on the timeline.”

Thanks for the advice John. You are correct…I did change the .vob to .mpg prior to dropping them into timeline. Maybe I’m going about it incorrectly (I’m relatively new)–here’s my M.O. when starting:

    1) Copy .vob files from DVD to folder on desktop.

    2) Open files in Avidemux (settings: video = MJPG; audio = PCM; container = AVI). Convert and save.

    3) Drop AVI file(s) onto timeline for editing.

    4) Burn DVD using DVDA.

So what I read from your post is that I should avoid changing .vob files prior to importing; use the import feature to bring files into Vegas (I had been using option Import > media = same thing?).

P.S. I “solved” the crash errors with Avidemux. I was saving the project instead of saving the file to the destination folder. Talk about the I.D.10.T error. 🙂

    Thanks,

[Mike Kujbida] “Tim, AC-3 files shouldn’t be a problem.”

I’ve read somewhere (on here?) that Sony Vegas doesn’t play nice with AC-3 files. Did I misunderstand or misread that information?

As far as having the wrong settings, I don’t know. I’ve followed the recommended settings (of John Rofrano) but every time I go to save project, the program crashes and shuts down.

    This is getting frustrating.

    Thanks for your help.

    Mike,
Thanks for the advice. It did/didn’t work for me.
The .VOB files all combined fine, but when I open/import media to timeline I get the “white screen of death” (not responding). I am wondering if that has something to do with the audio codec (AC3) that’s being dropped onto timeline? Does DVD Shrink also convert audio? I didn’t see an option for audio conversion? Suggestions?

    Thanks
