Then I will go with the solution that works for me. Mac OS, MS Windows, Linux, or whatever. If Apple is no longer going to make MacPros’s then I will turn away from Apple and seek what works properly for my workflow. I don’t think Apple going after my market. If I am wrong and they come out with something transformational (before NAB) then I will take another look. Otherwise for my purposes, they make pop guns.

Yes, that is exactly what they are doing.

Floris,
I just read through this thread again and I don’t see a sour note in it. I see people speculating on what happened and why, and then coming to the conclusion that nobody should hold their breath for the triumphant return of the old FCP. Who’s being sour? And afraid of change? Really? I don’t think a single person who posted on this thread is afraid of change. Considerate and careful in making decisions than affect their business, to be sure. Afraid? No.

Thanks. Bobby. I understand how shorter can be more complicated. It doesn’t look like FCPX is going to work for me at this point. I will be very curious to see how it further develops.

Oh, boy. Thanks Oliver. Maybe on the next go round.

And yes, I did read the part about doing longer programs in smaller sections. I’m interested in what happens when you put them together.

Thanks for your perspective, Steve. This is something I’d love to hear more about. I have a job coming up that seems tailor made for FCPX. 26 episodes, very fast turnaround, digital delivery. But it is a 30 minute show. So, is longer than 20 minutes really a wall here? To the extent that I have played with this software I feel it could help me with tight turnaround times. Anybody out there with experience beyond a 15 or so minute length?

I personally have rolled the dice in four different directions. I’m not entirely sure that I had any other options. As far as FCPX is concerned, at its present price point I’ll try it if I have an even an inkling that it will work for me. As long as I’m still on the Mac platform. That window (no pun intended) is closing rapidly.

I have seen Zodiac, Button, and Social Network and I know these two guys (and the folks they work with) know how to edit. I just don’t know how you really evaluate editing for an award. Or Acting. Cinematography, yes. Art Direction, yes. Costumes, yes. Visual effects, yes. There are real standards by which you can judge. But Acting, Editing, or even writing. What are the objective criteria for judging those? I guess what is really comes down to in all categories is: Does it work?

As someone who edits I have alway found this particular category amusing. I know that initially editors vote for editors. But how do you truly evaluate who did the best job without knowing what was there to work with in the first place? On the other hand if anyone can make a comprehensible sub three hour movie out of 443 hours on a schedule then I say bless them. Anyone want to figure out that shooting ratio? Anybody remember shooting ratios? I (apparently like many others) have not seen this movie. But now I will.
