I think this entire industry is on the crazy train at present. And having been on it for years myself I should know. I wake up twice a week in a sweat thinking that, while I was asleep, a new compression technology has taken hold, that everyone is using it, and that I am the last one to know.

I read about this a few weeks ago and wish so much that I could get there to see it. Here’s hoping that something like it will happen on the east coast. If I were doomed to watch only two filmmakers’ work for all eternity they would be Kubrick and Kurasowa. Because, like an Italo Calvino novel, each time you experience it you can see something happening that you didn’t see the last time.

I can see how that might be fun and useful as an option as long as that was not the only way to work. But for me the monitor would have to be awfully big. Like Minority Report big. Editing and dance could then merge.

Who the Hell knows? I will continue to use what works for me without regard to who says what. As will most others.

Boy, that’s a tough one. Speaking in general larger operations on Avid tend to use Windows. Smaller operations on all of the above tend to use Mac OS. There is no standard really, but happily both Avid and Premiere work (operationally) exactly the same on both OS’s. So either one should do fine but I definitely think going with something you’re comfortable is a good idea.
