Standard previews (pressing the space bar) don’t play the audio. Use RAM preview instead (zero on the keypad), or you can preview the audio only (period on the keypad).

The Write On option is in the same place in AE 6.0 and 7.0- in the Duration drop-down menu in the Paint palette.
There is also an effect (not a part of the Paint engine) called Write-on, and it’s location changed between versions. In AE 6.0 it is listed under the Stylize category. In AE 7.0 it is under the Generate category.

Displacement Map is only in AE Pro.

This is a limitation of (32-bit) Windows. Applications can not access more than 2 GB RAM. Microsoft built a switch into Windows that you can enable that will bump the limit up to about 3.5 GB RAM. It’s not without risk, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard of people having a problem with it.

I think the interpret footage option goes grey once the footage has been transcoded. You can revert to original, and then it should come back.
What if you export out of Premiere as MPEG-2? That’s the most efficient way to prep the video for DVD anyhow.
Oh, and what version of Encore are you using?

If the problem only exists on one player, try different media and/or a different bitrate for the video. Some players just don’t… er, play well with all discs and data.

Well, mostly. Keylight is a third-party plug-in from a company called The Foundry. Adobe bundles it with the Pro version of AE, but it has its own separate installer. Insert the first install disc for Production Studio, and click on the third-party software link on the auto-play screen or look in the folders on the disc.
