If the write-back of the metadata is causing the issue, are you saying the media browser doesn’t write updated XMP data?
While the media browser is a nice way to bring in media, I’m not sure it would change this situation if the write XMP preference is selected…
It sounds like log and transfer may use the modified dates as a verification for data set association.

As someone who was in the plugin industry for a time, I know that re-writing your plugin effects for FXplug from the AE interface was not a walk in the park. I’m sure translating those values back in the other direction isn’t a two-button deal either…
(Now Apple created yet another plugin structure for FCPX…they get bored easily I guess…)
Achieving a 1:1 correlation between Final Cut’s internal effects and PPro’s internal effects with the disparate scaling and source code may be difficult to impossible. Adobe’s been very focused on the FCP to PPro transition for people and they’ve done pretty well I think as Adobe’s NLE loads past FCP projects better than Apple’s at the moment…
Dissolves and audio levels are one thing, but color corrector calculations can have so many different approaches…it’s a tall order.

My guess would be that there may be some files that PPro doesn’t use that didn’t get a new modification date, and now they disagree?
Obviously if XDcamEX Clipbrowser can read the files, they aren’t “corrupted” so I wonder if you transfer them to another drive if that might bring all the mod dates into zen…?

Is the PPro installation on the non-working computer corrupt by chance?

I would make sure I bounced this around with Matrox as well. It may be a matter of them having some driver updates to shift between Soundbooth in CS5 and Audition in 5.5…

The only thing I’d add to Alex’s advice is that there is an inherent issue with MBP’s with Premiere Pro CS5…the native codecs for DSLRs, etc are a bit of a load to run.
There are a variety of Windows laptops that are so powerful that you have to wear asbestos pants to keep from burning your legs and the battery life is typically enough to run for 45 minutes when the machine is new…like the links Alex included…good machines, but they’re really a portable workstation.
MacBooks are engineered for a more balanced performance/power drain scenario and while ProRes and proxies run pretty nicely on most MBPs…native editing in PPro often finds a typical MBP processor bottle necking when you add that second layer of color corrected DSLR footage…etc.
The Mac will run longer on battery, but it’s design goals are really different than what PPro would typically need.
PPro’s design is what enables it to run all these formats natively, but its hardware host is what carries the water.

Not exactly sure what you mean by “select the in to out of a clip”…are you trying to extract a range?
I’m not an FCP editor so I wouldn’t know what the key would be, or if it even maps identically, but copy/pasting clip attributes is a normal copy and a special paste…so on a Windows machine in Premiere Pro’s original configuration, select the original clip and hit Ctl+C just like copy in any application, then select the destination clip…of course to paste the entire clip you would type Ctl+V…to just paste attributes, you’d type Ctl+Alt+V.
So…on a Mac, I’d start with those key commands substituting the command key for control and the option key for alt…but I might check the FCP key map if you don’t have a throw away scenario to test it. On my Windows machine the FCP keymap indicates that Alt+V is the paste attributes command, but I don’t have an option key…

I’m not as familiar with Matrox’s most recent offerings…there may be a hangup there, but it’s anything I’ve heard about.
In the short term, you do know you can arm an audio track to record on the sequence in PPro, right? If the external device seems to play nice with PPro, that may be a short-term work around.
…actually, since you can do it while the sequence is running, you could pace it visually if you’re narrating to picture…
