Are there any other system similarities between the folks who have this issue?

I do communicate with CineForm and apparently they are aware of your problem and are working on it. I suspect they’ve not seen it as I have not to this point.

I’m wondering if there is some common configuration that has a conflict? I will attempt to do some repro here as well.

In the meantime, could you post your configuration (processor/RAM/brand of computer, etc, etc, etc)

Well, technically it’s the same codec…the media should load into the Premiere HDV settings or the Aspect settings. Aspect does add the incresed RT mode and the effects, etc.

The system with the 540 system has Prospect on it at this moment, but the codec works essentially the same. I have used a 540 card with the Aspect project settings with no problems. Technically the picture should be there with ANY project settings…even DV should give you a (much lower res) picture on the external monitor.

Stephen’s issue is intriguing because of the picture being present in the PPro HDV settings, but not the Aspect settings.

…I’m wondering if an uninstall/reinstall of Aspect HD is necessary…

I’m curious…

Please describe the situation technically. I have an FX 540 as well.

The codec used in PPro 1.5.1 is also the CineForm codec, but as you know, without Aspect it’s slow.

Are you simply changing project settings to realize the problem?

He also mentioned on the other forum that he was aiming to create an EDL for FCP finishing later. That’s where the prosumer stuff gets tricky.

Chris asked me this question on the studentfilmmakers forum and he got a similar answer…apparently Chris didn’t believe me.

I was wondering if there might be a consumer product with an analog capture interface where the computer does some recompression to a small file. FW capture is a transfer and there isn’t any transcoding to be able to set for a lower resolution file.

Any thoughts on such a product anyone?

I would personally opt for a track matte.

I’d make my title as white letters on a black (not transparent) back ground…use the rectangle tool to make a black rectangle that completely covers the background, then the white text on top…full white, no outlines or shadows.

Then I’d make the fill…whatever that would be in Photoshop as a large document and set up a track matte where the title was the tracking matte…HOWEVER,

….be sure to put your fill/key source document on it’s own sequence and do the move first…then use that sequence as the key source in the track matte key.

If you use the document directly, the matte will move with it.

It sounds as if you may be right about the HD card…though it may not be as bad as it sounds, depending on how sensitive you are about the workflow.

First, I’m curious if you are using Premiere 1.5.1 alone, or do you have Aspect HD running as well?

There are several display cards with Y,R-Y,B-Y analog HD component output for the PC. If you have a monitor already, the nVidia FX 540 (250 USD street, give or take) is a dual head card and will run one desktop monitor and one analog HD out. With less Open GL acceleration but one more output head, there is the Matrox APVe card (around 300 bucks US street) which will run two desktop monitors and a video monitor.

The nice thing about these two cards is that an analog component HD monitor will do the trick vs. a wallet-draining HD-SDI monitor.

There really isn’t an elegant way to do this. Most of us use a transcoder like ProCoder, but then PPro would need to change project settings as well to match the new media.

This sort of thing does happen to be an area of obvious strength on the FCP side…
