What do you mean “PPro doesn’t recognize” the DVD burner? Are you trying to read data from it?

Was QT 7.6.6 installed before CS4?

Have you been using this and it recently stopped functioning propoerly?

QTX is definitely a good thing for everyone, but I doubt that CS4 can even see it. It didn’t exist when CS4 was released.

Is it possible that the codec you’ve picked isn’t handled by QT 7.6.6 when QTX is installed?

Media Encoder works properly for everything but QT?

footage in question:

What camera/format/framerate/bitrate, etc. How did you bring it in to PPro?

sequence:

What framesize, framerate, preview settings in the sequence settings

effects:

What, if any effects are on the clip? fast/slow mo…time remap…color correction, etc.

you said you checked the footage and it’s OK:

What did you check it in? PPro’s source window? A media player? Something else?

Try to make a new project and use a piece of the problem footage in it under the same conditions…does the problem repeat?

Well…if the project hasn’t been saved, then it should come up asking where the preview files are…

I’m assuming in the uninstall/reinstall, the link to the established Media Cache was probably severed.

The bottom line is that preview files aren’t permanent…they’re temporary. They’re stored like cached web pages you frequent and so forth…and they’re usually designed for speed over quality.

The good news is that because of this, most encoding in the Adobe suite isn’t done from the previews anyway…so if you’re dynamic linking the sequence into Encore and letting Encore do the transcode to the DVD format (MPEG2 or H264), not having the preview files is not going to make much difference.

The key with interface captures is that they have to be used at the resolution you captured them (sometimes a very specific scale factor will work via dumb luck, but basically the way you maintain their quality is not to scale them.

Most of us who do a ton of this set a screen capture resolution and an edit workflow specifically to preserve the capture clip’s clarity.

I’m curious…

Does FCP drop the clip res when it plays back multiple streams? In PPro, I’m wondering what the playback resolution was set to…

Also, I agree that your hardddrives would not be the problem if FCP has no issues with the material, however, are you handling the same files with both apps? Has the media come through log and capture (or whatever the FCP transfer front end is for XDcam) in FCP?

I’m curious if it has been ‘imported/processed’ by FCP, if you run the original camera footage unaltered in PPro (which is what it’s designed for) if that might not cure the problem. FCP’s “native” media restructuring is designed to be friendly to FCP…

Premiere Pro is optimized for the camera formats themselves.

ProRes is a conventional QT format and PPro has handled that pretty well on both Windows and Mac for a couple versions.

I have a colleague that had to alter some settings when adding a second display card a year or so ago…particularly in relationship to how the second card was setup to use resources vs the SATA interface…

It wasn’t an NVIDIA card…it was some small ATI card…Apple approved, but it took some changes in some sort of hardware priority (I’m not a Mac user…I was watching as he was trying different options.)

If that isn’t the issue, Apple should know something. As far as I know, they write the drivers. That’s why there are so few NVIDIA cards approved for Mac.

I use an Eye One probe…

There are several options for this sort of thing. Monitors do age and drift out of adjustment, that’s why the software will remind you at some specified interval that you should calibrate again…a month or whatever you set it for…

You would need a probe of some type to really do it correctly…

The calibration software would output a color that it knows the absolute value of, and then read the color being sensed by the probe and correct for the difference.

Then the settings would be stored as a sort of “LUT” (look up table) to make the monitor as accurate as possible, though a computer monitor will never be a calibrated video monitor…so an exact match is pretty unlikely.
