Yes, we get this too. As nearly all our throughput is interlaced (for UK Broadcast) and often from standards converted sources, we get the additional ‘feature’ of the new frames being interpolated as well. Great!

Well I won’t be buying one for a couple of years at least, not really bothered about it either – already happily migrated to Avid & Adobe on a stonking PC, have very high spec iMac for the dreaded FCP X, er, sorry, ‘Ten’.

    Hamid,

I can thoroughly recommend Richard Harrington’s books – I own a few myself and they’ve straightend many a learning curve for me.

Thanks for the input guys, mpeg1 not the tastiest or trendiest of codecs I know – but the piper calls the tune and all that. I’m still left pondering the anomaly that Adobe seemed to have lit the funeral pyre for the old codger of s codec on the Mac version of CS4, but not on the PC – I light heartedly wonder whether they have finally fried it cross platform in CS5!?

Thanks also for the FFMpeg link.

Bob, I’m guilty of having taken exception to your line of humour/advice on this forum in the past…but now I have to say that although sometimes cutting to the bone, your comments are, on the whole, usually pretty much as spot on as they are amusing. I hope the OP can see the funny side.

  • This particular snark has a bad habit of shooting anyone he can down in flames in often inappropriate, arrogant and downright rude fashion – he probably thinks he’s clever, he probably thinks he’s funny, in reality I think he just comes across as a bit of a dork.

Using the trusty Zelin measure, this one is a no-brainer. If you are nothing much more than an amateur, get the M35. If you are a jerk, the 1500 is a must have.

Seriously though, if deck control and format range is an issue and you’ve got the budget, then it’s got to be the HVR-1500 – it is actually possible to use a deck like this one without being a jerk, in spite of evidence to the contrary on this forum.

Actually, reading the thread I didn’t make it clear that I was going to hire to solve this one – after your recommendation of the SDI deck. I apologise for that, and for the record Mr Zelin, that is exactly what I’m going to do. Thanks.

I may be an amateur in your eyes mate, but I’ve been earning a decent living in video for the last 10 years, like it or lump it. Part of my business involves dealing with people in an appropriate and courteous manner- your attitude on here suggests to me that you don’t get out much and spend most of your time drooling over your vast array of HD gear like some kind of latter day Video Gollum with his ‘Precious’ – rather than engaging and interacting with other human beings in a reasonable manner. When you do engage it seems to me that is often in BOLD CAPITALS with a VERY UNPLEASANT ATTITUDE. Not nice, especially for newcomers to the Cow.

If you can’t ask a question and discuss things on a forum without getting shot down in flames by an arrogant know all then what, pray, is the point?

Enough of feeding the Troll, I’ve got work to do, no matter how crummy Mr Zelin thinks my standards are.
