Thanks for the compliment Bob, you must be sitting on a rusty nail or something.

I ALREADY SAID I WAS GOING TO HIRE A DECK SO WHAT IS YOUR F%C*I&G PROBLEM?

I do indeed – the baffling thing is that the TC shows up in VTR Exchange during capture now – but there’s nothing in the captured files.

    Hi Ken,

Another great suggestion for my list, and one I actually should have been looking for a couple of months back! I should have said that this job was shot with freerun time of day TC, with cameras stopping and starting in various locations filming a run around london – so I’m still stuck with this one.

Really appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge – always learning!!

Thanks for this work around Ken, appreciated. The volume of material that needs capturing and would need encoding makes the additional step quite daunting in this case – I think a different deck with SDI as Bob suggests would be quicker. Still, you can bet I’ll be doing it your way sometime soon as well!

Not so much to hire for a day Bob, thanks very much for the tip.

    Hi Ken,

Thanks for the input – just tried hot plugging to no avail. I’m working to a Directors brief – 5 cameras shot an event HDV, he wants footage captured in SD Prores 422…might be being a bit dim here but I didn’t think I could capture to SD Prores 422 HQ from HDV source over firewire, HD maybe, but SD? Hence the Addenda..

Cheers Bob – I thought I had that update installed already, but on closer inspection noticed that this was not the case. Doh. Still, hopefully this thread can be an example to others to make sure they have checked their driver & firmware versions properly.

April 22, 2008 at 7:41 am in reply to: Random but persistent flicker – IoHD

Thanks for the replies…this is definitely not interlace twitter – it’s flashing and flickering sometimes at the top of the picture, then the bottom, then accross the whole frame.I’m getting it not only on passthrough of holding frames, but during playback. It’s also a brand new problem, I’ve been using this IoHD since last November and not had this issue. It looks like you would expect output with a dodgy cable to look – if it’s not cable related I’m guessing there is something up inside my IoHD?

At the moment there is nothing else at all connected to my MacPro other than the Aja IoHD. Recently there has been a hired in Digibeta deck, normally there is a Sony HVR M25 with an Addenda Lanc-RS422 adapter.

UPDATE! After writing the above I realised one additional connection change I hadn’t tried yet -so I plugged the new IoHD firewire cable into my second FWbus on the MacPro….guess what…the problem has gone. Praise be.

These days I always make sure the Io HD is powered up before I even boot up the Mac, let alone start up FCP. I also power it down last.

This really has made a big difference to the stability of my set up, as well as the more obvious stuff like making sure that project/sequence settings match the IO etc. I also have the high quality audio scrubbing unchecked as advised by Bob.

In late Feb/Early March I really was quite despondent about the box – but it’s been doing me proud lately.
