I got there by going to:

I also found this number so that you can call with your serial number and see what they can do for you:

Identify the drive to them as a “Storageworks Ultrium 920 Internal” and that should get you to the correct division.

How long have you had the drive? The warranty on these drives is 3 years, so if it’s less than 3 years old, HP will replace it for you. If over 3 years, you’ll need to get it repaired.

Hi Neil,

First, apologies about the upgrade path not being more clearly defined in that email. The product manager made an invalid assumption that everyone knew that this was for 3.x users only because 3.x has been shipping for almost 10 months.

As with all BRU update/upgrade cycles, any minor update (bug fixes, platform updates) are free within the same version with or without am extended support agreement (i.e. 2.2 to 2.3 or 2.3.5 to 2.3.7). Major upgrades (2.x to 3.x) do require a new license and are free if you have a current extended support plan (if you didn’t automatically receive your new license, contact our sales team) or 50% of the full price if you don’t have an extended support agreement in place.

The simplest way to get support is to open a support ticket on our website if U.S. hours do not meet your work schedule. Go to https://support.tolisgroup.com and select “Contact Support” to create a ticket.

Also, I urge you to at least update to 2.3.7 (the current 2.x release). It will work with your current 2.x license and resolves a few issues in the 2.3.6 and earlier releases.

Leave BRU PE waiting for the tape and open a Terminal. In the terminal, type:

Does that recognize the tape as a BRU tape?

Glad that you’re giving BRU PE a workout!

You would use BRU PE’s “incremental” selection option from the Advanced mode to only add the changed files (BRU will do this automatically). Check out the manual in chapter 6 for specifics.

These incremental operations can be appended to tapes, or written to new tapes. For all BRU products, there is no required relationship between full archives/backups and incremental archives/backups. You could write you full jobs to LTO-5 media and then write your incremental jobs to another eSATA or SAS drive for temporary storage until you next run a full job for that data.

With BRU Producer’s Edition, your workflow is drag, drop, click. BRU PE writes your data to tape using the folder layout that you have on your disk(s) and then allows you to search all known archives by those same folder / filename parameters for restoring a single clip, a folder, or an entire archive. Not wanting to sound like a broken record about tape-based archival, and it’s just a thought, but if you can add an LTO drive to your system, you can archive your raw data at full res and never have to worry about loss of fidelity.

Hi Folks,

Good news on the LTO-6 front. Testing by the major players has reduced the wait time for LTO-6 drives and media and you’ll start seeing availability announcements from most vendors this month (Dec). This was mainly due to far fewer teething pains as witnessed with LTO-5.

TOLIS Group’s solution prices have been posted on our website and will start shipping after the Christmas holidays (first week of Jan).

Native rated Capacity with LTO-6 media: 2.5TB/tape
Native rated Throughput w/LTO-6 media: 160MB/sec

We’ve been sustaining over 190MB/sec with files such as movie and audio data on Mac systems running OS X 10.7 and 10.8 with BRU under PCIe and Thunderbolt configurations using ATTO’s H6 and R6 ExpressSAS HBAs. We’re seeing similar performance with BRU on Linux systems and Solaris systems using both SAS and Fibre Channel connectivity.

What’s your OS? If Windows, both are good brands. If OS X, our customers report little to no support from Quantum as soon as you mention OS X.
