Looking for Workflow – Backing Up Many TB to Quantum Tape Drive
I am trying to find a proper solution for backing up TB of live projects, and past projects.
– In more detail:
I am working on a Mac OSX Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
Final Cut Studio Pro 7 Suite
I primarily store and work off a CalDigit HDPro (12TB) connected via e-SATA
Inside the Mac I have a 1T drive I’m calling “Staging Archive”, as I’m using this drive to move files to in which I plan to back up to tape. A few projects are old enough I may back them up to two tapes and then just remove them from the machine.
For file transfer management and travel purposes, I also have two external CalDigit drives. 1=2T; 2=4TGoal:
I need to free up space on the CalDigit HDPro by moving older projects onto 2 or more tapes each. I will not be able to keep up with purchasing more hard drives with the amount of files coming in.Q:
I am looking for a proper workflow in backing up projects to 1.5T tapes. My biggest challenge is figuring out how to organize for the backing up process. For each 1.5T tape, should I be moving up to 1.5T of project files into a folder, and then backing that folder up? Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Ian
