Additionally, I forgot to mention that the RR4522 is EOL, but that it has been replaced with the RR4522SGL. It’s the same chipset and card components, simply in a different carrier and retail box.

Hi Michael,

Still no change to this status. And, if you’re not having issues with an ARECA card, it is truly luck that is driving your efforts and not technology.

While the RR4522 is reported as EOL, there are still plenty available. We have not had a chance to test the 3740 series as yet. I will post a new thread once we know more.

That info is primarily aimed at developers, not end users. Unless you are writing a wrapper for LTFS, there’s no way to simply “do” that in the Windows terminal (cmd or PowerShell). It basically translates to –

Read the XML file
Sort by Block instead of name
Create your copy list from that sorted data
Manually copy each file as a separate task in a loop

Additionally, if there have been file deletions or overwrites, things will become even more obtuse in dealing with the fact that the old version is still on the tape, just masked in the later XML entries.

In the meantime, you can skip authenticating at the start and it will run in your user’s space. This will work unless you’re actually trying to backup and restore your system volume (which requires authentication).

That 100GB quick test was a combination of R3D, DPX, and M2TS files located on one of our ArGest RackMOD arrays.

We have developed additional firmware and drivers for our units that does resolve this issue.

Unfortunately, a power failure is the one situation that we can’t sort out automagically. While BRU can restore any files that were written onto the tape up to the point of the failure (unlike LTFS where the take is now completely a brick), the tape is left in a state where the end of the data markers that would normally be written are not there for additional write operations to find and start from.

As for BRU PE and the Catalog not found, that’s because the failure occurred before the job finished, so the catalog is still in the temporary state and hasn’t been finalized and added to the Catalogs folder.

Please open a ticket at support.bru.com and let’s see if the guys can help you out with recovering the catalog for that failed job.

Nope, and according to ATTO it won’t be. They seem to be satisfied with the lower tape speeds. Since you’re buying new, I really recommend the HighPoint RocketSTOR 6328. Do not use the L versions as they are “limited” and don’t support tape. This will give you both hardware RAID and top speed for tape and disk.

Neil is mostly correct, but we didn’t see a drop for LTO-6 when LTO-7 shipped like we did with LTO-5 when LTO-6 shipped. This round, the LTO-6 prices stayed where they were and LTO-7 came in higher. Part of the cause is that most of the vendors still believe that 2.5TB is still a sweet spot for the larger number of tape users and the market is proving them correct. Yes, you can write to LTO-6 tapes in an LTO-7 drive and a lot of our customers do just that. They buy the LTO-7 drive because they have the budget, but then use LTO-6 media for the near term since you can buy 4 LTO-6 tapes (10TB) at ~$30 ea for the price of one LTO-7 tape (6TB) ~$120 ea.

However, unless LTO-7 adoption picks up, we don’t expect the drive or media pricing to start seeing a downward trend until we get closer to LTO-8’s launch. It’s back to a Catch-22 – the drive and media prices won’t come down until volumes increase, but customers are having problems buying because the prices are high.
