Yes, I thought it was rather vague myself. You would’ve seen the question marks appearing above my head upon reading it.
Thanks for the help.

Had a feeling an upgrade to FCP5 would come up. Was trying to avoid that since I’ve already spent some major coin. Bought the entire Production Suite shortly before NAB, and fool that I was, it didn’t occur to me that Apple would come out with an upgrade. Should have known since many companies were scrambling to accomodate HDV.
If I could get my present config working properly, I’d be happy. I’ll keep plugging along following the great advice here on the Cow, but as a recent convert to Apple, I’m beginning to realize upgrades are a necessary evil.
Thank you all.

Thanks Debe and Jeremy!
Jeremy: Tiger came preinstalled. Bought my box right when they announced the 2.7, around May 2005. Will try your suggestions on the render files, re-rendering, etc. My 2×400 drives are not RAID. One is system, one is storage. Nothing else is connected to Firewire, just the DSR-11. What problems are you referring to when you say my configuration is “wrought with issues”? What steps do you recommend to address the problems?
Debe: Great idea! Will try this to meet the deadline. Shortly thereafter will tackle Jeremy’s suggestion.

Thanks Jim. That makes sense. Are you recommending the Motion clips be rendered first before exporting to FCP? I thought you could export Motion project file(s) into Final Cut Pro unrendered and view them as single source clip(s).

Jim, I successfully burned a DVD, thanks for the advice. But, when I attempted to verify the playback of the QT movie directly from the disc, the playback was very poor. ie: the movie would playback for 3 secs, then freeze, then pick back up again 12 secs into the movie, freeze again, and so on. The QT movie plays back well when calling it up from my hard drive, but it’s playing bad when taken from the DVD. So I suspect there is an issue in the burning process ??? Maybe ??? What do you think? tx.

I was wondering when someone would notice that in my profile. Took that from that old Steve Martin movie “The Jerk”. So please don’t report me to the PETA folks!
Thanks for the great advice, will give it a go when I get home.

Interesting observations, just got my new G5 2.7 a week ago. Noticing the same things. A rather flimsy DVD carriage, and the ever-present whirling of the cooling system at the slightest adjustments on the timeline. Granted, I’m new to Apple, so this may be the norm, I dunno. No big problems thus far though. Looking for answers to some little things (see my earlier post about playhead sync). Still getting used to the G5 and FCP (Apple convert), so it’s early yet. After paying $5,000 for this box, it had better perform.

Jerry, my system information is contained in my profile, I thought. For everyone’s convenience in the future, I’ve also added my system config in my profile signature. My scratch disc is one of my dual 400GB serial ATA’s.
