    Hey Kurt,

Just an FYI…I did not see what camera you are putting on the sticks.

Just something to be aware of…I had the Sachtler DV 4II for my JVC-HD100 and it was really tippy…I had to put a foot on the ground spreader everytime I went to any kind of pan or tilt…and it is a light camera.

What I did was buy a set of Gitzo carbon fiber legs for around $750…it gives you three extension levels and is light as can be. I teamed that with a highend Amvona fluid head and have not looked back yet. It is quick release and quick move capable, but very stable and steady.

Just be aware of the tippy nature of the lighter Sachtlers…especially if you are using a really light camera.

It is a purchase…but I use Sorrenson Squeeze and have had great luck. It will also turn all your QuickTimes to Flash movie files for even smaller video files of good quality on the web.

October 23, 2006 at 11:38 pm in reply to: Red tearing in HDV timeline…

It appears that if I drop down to 16 bit on the output from Photoshop…it fixes the problem I had.

I don’t understand it, but that is the fix that is working…I would think that it would have effected more than just the reds in the logo.

Anyone have any other input on it, I would like to hear it.

    Thanks all,

  • Thanks for the tips and info…I can always count on the Cow.

What I have is not bad on my website…I have just always been dazzled by the “trailers”. I will keep working on it.

  • Yeah…I have been using the H.264 since I am starting with HD footage out of my timeline, but they seem a lot bulkier than the ones you see that are actual movie trailers.

I will try to download one and see if I can get that info…thanks.

You know I caught that to about the “Most”…and I asked about that and he gave me an item # to search for and it came up with a 5 drive chasis X 2 that the online literature says Uncompressed HD…unfortunately I can’t remember what it was and the quote does not have the item # on it.

If…in a perfect world…this was going to work…what do you think about the price point? And what would a similar system cost me from Bob’s suggestion above?

Oh…by the way Bob…I am now in Orlando…been up here about a year and half.

    Thanks all.

You guys rock…I knew I could depend on the Cow.

Price is definitely the concern for me.

Just some info…after I posted I gave the guys at ProMax a call where I bought the two edit systems that I have and they are offering I think what might be a similar box…two towers=10 SATA drives and I got a quote in hand for $2999.00 for 2.5TB…does that sound like a good price?

They said the price includes the card(s), as well…and they are stiped 0 so there is no drive protection, but I think I may be willing to take the chance with regular backups to firewire maybe.

Something else to check…I have run into this multiple times.

I will check the setup…all presets are as they should be and the footage stills wants rendering.

Double click the clip once you drop it into the timeline and look at the distort setting…odds are it is not set to 0. I run into this all the time…don’t know why…can’t find anyone that can tell me why…it just is, but it has fixed a lot of frustration…I automatically check the distort setting now when I edit HDV…and I capture straight from my JVC HD100 using the presets.
