So what are all of the Sony 24p users doing that are shooting in 24p?
Are they converting to some other frame rate at or after digitization?
Doesn’t that negate the shooting in 24p or does it still keep that 24p look since you acquire that way?

I just relocated my production company(boutique) 5 months ago and left behind most of my client base…basically starting from square one.
First thing I did was join the local Chamber…sounds like you got advice on that one…do it. The first Chamber meeting that I went to I got a lead that may result in a $120,000 contract(results can vary).
Next look for networking/leads groups in your area…I have joined one that again…is resulting in thousands of dollars of leads…with several coming to contract very likely in October. One hopefully this week.
I tried the advertising thing in print…got “0” calls…not one. I think still…in this day and age…the cheapest and fastest way to grow our respective businesses is thru word of mouth and leads. It is working incredibly for me…so far.

Hey Matte,
Thanks but I read all that months ago…it still does not address my question.
Final Cut has been able to edit 24p for awhile, but as I understand it there are JVC specific problems with their version of 24p from the HD100 camera.
I am trying to find out what I can shoot in that will readily edit in FCP…until Apple or JVC can get a fix to FCP that will allow JVC 24p use. I.E.-can I shoot in 720/30p…etc. and be able to hit the ground running?
Thanks.

August 28, 2005 at 7:48 pm in reply to: Questions about starting a religion-based production company…Thanks…about the quote…that is an original, too.
At least I will claim it until someone shows me someonelse that came up with it.
It came to mind once when I was talking to a youth group that I used work with…one of the kids asked me if I could see light at the end of the tunnel for things that were going on in the world at the time…I think one of which was the first Iraq War.
I just told them that it isn’t the light that we need to seek at the end of our troubles…it was the courage to take the next step into darkness that we really needed.

August 28, 2005 at 6:07 pm in reply to: Questions about starting a religion-based production company…Hey Jeff,
You might also consider what I am doing.
I do a lot of work in the secular world…corporate stuff, commercials, etc. But I maintain realtionships with various religious groups so that I do no/lo pay jobs for them…sort of a tithing of my time, giving back to the community thing. It is very satisfying and you can do it on your own time, but also pay the bills when they come in because you are doing “paying work” as a day job.
One struggle with working with religious organizations that I have found…I had a really bad experience working with PAX TV and one of their groups a few years back…is that because it is their “ministry”, they expect your working for them to be your “ministry” without consideration of the gear that you are trying to pay for, the kids you have put clothes on, and the mortgage that you have to pay.
So with that in mind…make it your ministry, but have the “day job” income to pay the bills, so that working with church groups can be the joy and blessing that it should be.

Ron,
You and Leo are Gods among men…I ditto all that you have said. Great posts and great advice.
I always tell my clients and associates…”Without my integrity…I am nothing”…like you said Ron, we are in reality a very small community when it comes to “word of mouth” and “degrees of seperation”.
We are are all well served to keep that in our minds at all times.

Is there any income potential? How is it made/paid?
What kind of content?

I would also ditto Ron’s advice and give my own.
Look for leads/networking groups in your area, join the Chamber of Commerce for your region(more than one if it applies), and like Ron said…build your own business.
The reason I say this…I am doing just that. I relocated with my family and production company 5 months ago to a new region. I have no less than 6 projects that are headed toward contracts as we speak. Two of them as leads from the local Chamber and the rest from two seperate leads groups that I have joined or attended.
I will be honest…I don’t think I have ever worked the “business” side of my business so hard before, but it is really paying off and is pushing me way out of my comfort zone and making…dare I say it…more of a sales person out of me, as well as my old roles as a DP, Producer, Editor, and video guy extraordinare…lol.
Another suggestion, as well, if you did not burn the bridge with the former employer…pursue a “strategic alliance”…if they have overflow work or still want to offer your services to clients that were happy with your work…offer them a cut rate so that they make a percentage good enough to “resell” your services.
Also, I am not sure of what all the services are that you offer…but what I am seeing is that people are more likely to use me when they see that I am a “one-stop-shop”. I offer concept to final product, be it on tape or interactive media…I handle it. Now if I don’t do it myself…I sell it as though I do…again via strategic alliances that I have with good, reputable people that I can trust, resell their services, and I still get a modest percentage. I am honest with my clients if have to “farm” services out, but they also know that they are not paying more because of it and I still handle the logistics.
Sorry to ramble, just what has worked incredibly for me.
Good luck to you…I think you will be very rewarded with what you are doing…I know I have. Just don’t burn bridges and remember that the most solid looking lead will probably not work out, but the most obscure lead will…just seems to be the way it goes for me…lol.

Has anyone checked into the “Pre-Paid” legal organizations? Are they worth the pre-payment and do they have expertise in our field?
I have heard that it can be cost effective, just wonder if anyone has experience here.

[David Battistella] “many people use the I/O as the analog part of the Kona 2 and run them hand in hand. This gives you a very flexible package and lets you service any customer needs”
I have this same system…with all current firmware and Mac OS…it is great. Waiting to get my hands on HD, but the time is getting ever closer that I will need it.
