February 5, 2009 at 2:22 pm in reply to: A couple of questions that I really want to know the answers to!crushing the blacks on video is not uncommon, although i wouldn’t recomend doing it with an auto iris setting. if you would like the most control to try and “fix” the images, Color is probably your best route. the 3 way color corrector can do some things but it isn’t the nicest of tools. the biggest problem that i would expect you will tind is that some of the information is lost in the blacks. this can happen on both ends of the spectrum when you either over or under expose. a quick tutorial in color to get the basics of correction will give you the basics you need to see if you image is salvageable. BTW do your best to get a quality monitor. second guessing what is dark and what is not with a computer monitor will send you chasing your tail.

February 4, 2009 at 4:35 am in reply to: Mac Caption Plus XDCAM–What am i doing wrongSorry I didn’t realize it was in BETA, It is listed as possible in the user manual that you send with the program, (purchased a year ago) also when i called and spoke to people there as to the “how-to” they pointed me to a tutorial, never mentioning the BETA. This is great news, and i look forward to a update in the near future, hopefully by then i’ll be able to export via HDSDI also. Thus making the HD version of the software we purchased really HD.

Dimmers can be fantastic, but watch out. a cheap dimmer can become noisier than a room of florescent. The DIY dimmer shouldn’t be a hard item to make, a basic how-to for home wiring should make things clear.

I would suggest trying to add some color to the background, and to try to add some backlight. I would either use an amber gel on the backlight, or allow the color from the background bleed over. A nice red and blue mixture would allow the background to pop out. I think the look you have isn’t a bad one, they are just swallowed by the void behind them.
-my two cents-

I thought that the naming allocation U1 was appropriate “Useless One” Waste of money. I about lost the ability to recommend equipment after that purchase. I’m hoping that the firmware comes soon, by the way NEVER take the sales reps word about function and updates

I’m not gonna get into the data rate contest, but FLV (flash) has the great ability to load video as it’s playing. since you know the video’s length you can pump data rates and screen sizes till you find something you like. file sizes will stay small.

January 10, 2009 at 3:58 am in reply to: is this possible or is it a cool feature to have?i’m confused…. you can with one key (cannot remember which letter .. above the space bar) toggle on and off the snap function. no mouse, no button bar needed. isn’t that what you want to do?

are you trying to end with a dvd? if so would export to compressor. his will work like an avid refrence to squeeze. I haven’t had much luck making qicktime refrence files, and discovered if i needed the file that making a self contained video with same settings worked perfectly. i would ignore the refrence part if you just need a file, and if making a DVD export to compressor.
hope this helps
