    good question!

I’m in a new position that is asking some of the same questions. It’s a Non-profit and they have created the position of Video Producer to increase the quality and quantity of video for them.

What i’m running into now is I’m being asked to exactly quantify how much time it will take for each video they want produced. Typically when I was freelance, I would look at a project and bid according to finished time as well as what type of video and use case. Im finding myself making educated guesses on how much time to edit, acquire B-roll, conduct an interview ect… I try to say it can be relative to each project, travel times, crew costs vs time. so many variables to try to nail down.

For me the data related to each project can highly specific/situational. I’m interested in what others can add to the discussion.

I dont know if you have already built your studio space, but with todays power needs much lower (using Kino flo’s and LED lights) than what they used to be in the days of Quartz lighting, you will need far less than in the past. The biggest thing to look at is where the outlets are located. I would certainly look to add Duplex outlets (probably on separate 20 amp circuits if $ allows) in your ceiling as well as along the walls remembering to not spoil a wall that might be on camera.

To get a more exact need of how much power you certainly can look at each fixture you have and total up the wattage. ( if I remember right, its about 120 watts will draw 1 amp of power.) Always get more power than you think you need! don’t let the electricians give you one 20 amp circuit for the whole studio, you might ask for a 50 amp box with 15-20 circuits in it.

UPDATE on Macbook pro and Premiere Pro

Ive been limping along trying to meet my deadlines, and minimize the loss of productivity when I get a crash. I was able to talk to an old colleague that configures editing systems. He recommended 2 changes:

    • RE-Format my Samsung T5 SSD media drive to match the MacBook (APFS)
    • Roll back my version of PP to the long term supported version (15.4.5)

The systems seems to be more stable, but I still get the beach-ball fail when booting first thing in the AM, I’ve worked around this by launching PP and trashing the preferences. I’m spending a few minutes after launching resetting my preferences and I haven’t had a crash while editing since.

Any thoughts on why resetting my preferences each time averts the Program non-responsive notice and prompting a force quit?

So is it the software that is not happy with the display adaptor (Mokin)? where would I even find the Beta software? What forum should I be on to see the discussions?
