Consider the following also:

C300 from Canon-
AF100
HMC160 from Panasonic
New soon to be release Canon 5Dmark3…

and then you will need to re-fit your hardware to handle HD files. Encoding, digital backups, processing to make files play nicely…

I do about 90% of my work with HDSLR’s. I’ve recently shot over a dozen multi-cam shoots with 5d’s and T2I’s. Sony Vegas Pro edits them nicely.

1. 12min clips are an issue- I shoot mostly corporate and commercial. If I need longer times, I rent other HD cams. (Ex1, HVx200,Af100)
2. Double system sound- You need a good solution. (h4n zoom, good mics etc)
3. Vegas handles multiple codecs nicely.
4. Have the beefiest machine you can afford to edit with for DSLR’s. I use MPEG Streamclip and the Dnx workflow from Avid

Hey Steve,

So you are using After Effects? What is your workflow with Sony Vegas Pro?

1. Render out an uncompressed file >> AE
2. Grade in AE
3. Render back out to Vegas?

I fixed the issue. I had a free/open video track on my timeline. Deleted that open video track and problem solved…. I am now able to edit in Multi-track with no issues

User error 🙂

Doing the following:

1. multi-camera HDSLR edits
2. Single HDSLR edits. h.264 plays nicely in timeline
3. mixing a weekly audio podcast Audio tools ROCK in Vegas
4. Setting up After Effects workflow- SVP to AE+Red Giant
5. Produced 2 Web TV shows for a client. From 12 to 24 episodes
6. Working on the editing/FX for a Medical Web TV Show
