Did you let the camera back focus itself as is mentioned in the manual?
It takes a little getting used to, but the EX has an electronically controlled lens that needs to be reset every once in a while.

Shooting 1080 25p with 1/50 shutter under 60Hz fluorescent will give you problems.
Switching to 1/60 mostly solves them, sometimes a little trimming is
    neccesary.

November 15, 2009 at 9:04 pm in reply to: Serious Backfocus Problems on Sony EX3

I’ve had the same problem with my EX-3.
It took a very long time to convince the people at Sony’s repair center in Basingstoke UK that there was a real problem.
Only after sending over video clips showing the problem and getting very angry did they respond.
In the end they changed the lens and that solved all the problems.
At first they try to make an amateuristic idiot out of you.
Don’t let that happen, there is a serious design problem with the electronics that control the lens back focus. But Sony does not want to discuss that.
They did that before, and its stupid because camera’s like the EX-3 are not made for the ignorant home video crowd.
A professional camera system with international prime support deserves a professional response.

Don’t use tape. it will leave glue particles that might end up deep in your camera. and tearing it of in a hurry will break that flimsy plastic door. in the end you are worse of using tape. if you must, use tape that leaves no glue. be especially carefull in hot circumstances.
if you worry about dust buy a jacket or cameraglove.
and I think that this camera is a lot more dustproof than any tape based camera we used earlier.

It is actually XDcam SD footage that most people want to see.
so I’m not so sure clipbrowser will work.
I will run a test and let you know.

Have a look at DvTec’s ENGrig.
    https://www.dvtec.tv/id29.html
works for me with the EX-3, even with the letus adapter on front.
and its a real small unit to carry if you don’t use it.
if you need to shoot a 12 hour handheld day with a large camera its a musthave.
But do start to work on your back and shoulder muscles, on the long run its worthwhile.
