    Its a weird phenomenon.
Maybe its more a thing for the Make-Up people because it has a lot to do with oversmoothing a face.

    Never sell your meter.
It is not worth getting little money for it.
be like the rest of us end end up with loads of little handy tools lying around.
you never know when they might come in usefull.
my cupboards are full of them.
and btw the zebra’s allows for pretty precise measurements through the lens.

Don’t use the meter, use the zebra.
You are looking through 3 optical units (Prime, Letus , Sony zoom)
Then its very difficult to precisely set and use a meter.
The zebra tells you exactly what amount of light reaches the sensor.

August 24, 2010 at 7:51 pm in reply to: XDCAM PAL 24p?

    Hi Sherwin,

for that film feeling 25p will do fine.
if you are going to make a 35mm film copy shooting 24p might be interesting otherwise don’t bother
because shooting 24 frames in a 50Hz environment gives a lot of trouble with flashing fluorescents etc.
Make sure that your Detail settings are not to high because that more than anything else (besides progressive)
helps staying away from that Video feel.
    happy shooting!

I have the Black Magic SDI to HDMI adapter.
works great for setting op a large consumer monitor to let clients/directors watch the shoot or footage.
Because HD shows so much detail its nice to see it big.

I’ve have a subscription for more than 20 years. The shipping to Europe is surprisingly cheap.
Take a subscription for three years, that is a very good offer for the money.
Enjoy the magazine, there is always something to learn or notice.
    Especially in the small ad’s.

Great work in post! Where is this group based?
Why didn’t you shoot with a smaller sensor camera?
With all the greenscreen and post manipulation there is no D.o.F. effect at all.
I’m pretty sure in these circumstances a PDW 800 or F23 or Pana equivalent would have given you a much sharper image.
In 2K the Red is notoriously fuzzy.
    Keep up the good work!

May 3, 2010 at 10:00 pm in reply to: DVcam on EX-1r

    Hi Guys,

sorry that I respond so late, but I was abroad.
I’ve tried all options, but it looks like I have to tell my client that we are back to old school tape-like real time transferring of the DVcam footage.
On the web I could not find any other solution and over here in Holland my professional dealer tells me that there is no codec available for
    DVcam-EX in FCP.
“Go old school at least you know it will work” was there suggestion.
Adding that Sony Netherlands is primarily a sales organization that will not be of much use for this problem.
All in all a bit disappointing. And that while I was so happy with the image and handling quality of the EX-1r.
The big question now is, what setting to use if I want to use the EX material in an FCP project with a lot of DVcam archival footage and do not want to render all the time?
    Any suggestions?

    small update,
just upgraded Clipbrowser to 2.6 and it now shows clips.
But XDcam transfer 2.12 does not.
How can I get these clips into FCP?

March 14, 2010 at 9:34 pm in reply to: HMI Flicker in Pal Land

If you shoot 50 fps in the States you have to be very carefull with fluorescents in the frame.
they will slowly flicker if the shutter speed is 1/50.
try using 1/60, but look out with mixing different light sources. tungsten, fluorescents and HMI because they make it hard to see the flicker.
