DVcam on EX-1r
Posted by Thomas Kist on April 28, 2010 at 2:07 pmHas anyone tried shooting DVcam on the EX-1r?
I just did and XDcam transfer version 12 and clipbrowser say there are no clips.
Is there a new codec?Thomas Kist

just upgraded Clipbrowser to 2.6 and it now shows clips.
But XDcam transfer 2.12 does not.

April 28, 2010 at 6:28 pmWell I’ve found something on the Canadian Sony XDCAM EX site, Thomas, but the file seems to be missing when one clicks on the download link. Here is the description of the attached file:
PDZK-MA1 Ver 1.2 XDCAM EX AMA Plug-in (for Mac)
PDZK-MA1V12ForMac.dmg
Supports new XDCAM EX formats: * XDCAM EX 4 ch audio (MP4 files) * XDCAM EX DV-AVI Standard definition * XDCAM EX 35Mbps 1440 (same as XDCAM HD420 optical) See enlcosed Release notes and installation guide for more detailshttps://support.sonybiz.ca/esupport/eSupportHome.asp
The Windows version seems to be available but not the Mac version. Very odd.
I also looked on the American Sony XDCAM EX micro site but there is nothing mentioned about the above software. You might want to check out other Sony site around the globe. Let us know if you find anything.

April 30, 2010 at 9:59 amThomas, I don’t edit on FCP but can’t you just play the video into your system via either firewire or SDI direct from the camera? Just treat it as tape like in the old days!

May 3, 2010 at 10:00 pmHi Guys,
sorry that I respond so late, but I was abroad.
I’ve tried all options, but it looks like I have to tell my client that we are back to old school tape-like real time transferring of the DVcam footage.
On the web I could not find any other solution and over here in Holland my professional dealer tells me that there is no codec available for
DVcam-EX in FCP.
“Go old school at least you know it will work” was there suggestion.
Adding that Sony Netherlands is primarily a sales organization that will not be of much use for this problem.
All in all a bit disappointing. And that while I was so happy with the image and handling quality of the EX-1r.
The big question now is, what setting to use if I want to use the EX material in an FCP project with a lot of DVcam archival footage and do not want to render all the time?
Any suggestions?Thomas Kist
