Viewing XD proxy’s
I have a lot of clients who would like to be able to watch XDcam proxy’s
without having FCP or a similar program installed. They use Mac’s and PC’s.
Is that possible? Don’t you always need the codecs that come with FCP or similar?
Because it would be an very easy way to spot footage.Thomas Kist

Sony’s Clip Browser will enable you to view EX footage without having an NLE present on your computer. Perhaps XDCAM HD footage is viewable as well . You can find the free software here for both Mac and PC:

It is actually XDcam SD footage that most people want to see.
so I’m not so sure clipbrowser will work.

Hi Thomas. I supply proxies from my pdw700 to clients to view. Windows machines just need the pdz1 software installed. Mac users need the FCP Transfer software. With mac you’ll get an error message saying FCP is not installed but it will still be possible to upload and view proxies. EX footage I\’m sure has a different story…

How? I am stumped as to how I can use XDCam Transfer software on my Mac to access/view SD proxy files on my 700. I have the camera on our network with a fixed IP address, I can access the files using Fetch, but that’s it. I can’t view any of it remotely. I was even able to enter the URL in Safari successfully so that the camera mounted on my desktop as a drive. Still, the transfer software was unable to do anything. The URL I used in Safari was ftp://admin:@192.168.1.200/

I have only used FAM via usb with the PDWU1 or Firewire with the 700 to transfer proxies to a mac. I suspect it may be the ethernet transfer route which is yielding the different result.
And as I think things through, I have only worked with HD422 files – though I can’t believe these would work and not SD files.

I have no problems viewing proxies with the XDCam Transfer Mac app, via USB or Firewire, whether they were shot 422 or not. I’m trying to do it via ethernet. If anyone knows HOW, I’d love to hear from you because I’m stumped. All I’ve been able to do is access the camera via FTP client app. (Fetch).
