Try trashing your preferences and cache, some times it gets backed up..and needs to be reset..

MMMM, long post..
I had a simular problem on Monday, kinda weird.. there must be a bug going around or something..
I reinstalled my OS and my FCP, Im kinda back up and running but still having trouble connecting to my decks consistantly..
Any ways thats the best start you can do for a quick fix, check you codec, and extensions too..3 -

Walt, sorry but I didnt mean just software, the combination of the 2..
Mostly other hardware setups..
Im was just sick of every time I updated software OS,FCP etc, I would loss function with my exteranl hardware, aka Cinewave
Or have to wait for the 3rd party to come up with an update.
All in all if you like what you have and dont have any problems stick with it..
You just have to aware of different updates and such, a problem you didnt really have to deal with 5 years ago..
Now we have new software coming out evey 3 months it seems.. -
Not sure about your question, you might need to dup the layer and add a mask or matte..
I use Particle in AE and it works find, have the shatter on the top layer, and the video will be revealed in the background
